  4. Ancient Mexicans discovered chocolate and vanilla. When the spaniards arrived, they grew obsessed with the Aztecs favored drink — hot chocolate delicately flavored with vanilla and other spices — and they kept it as a jealously guarded secret on their voyage back to Spain. They introduced it to the rest of Europe and kept its origins confidential for about 100 years. Mexicans also discovered/introduced corn, tomatoes, avocados, pumpkins, and many other delicious foods to the world.
