We Accidentally Started A Chocolate Company — Now It Brings In $162 Million A Year
If Tony’s Chocolonely founder Teun van de Keuken had his way, he would’ve ended up behind bars long before he created his popular chocolate company. The crime? Fueling slavery by knowingly purchasing a chocolate bar made with illegal child labor. Nearly 20 years later, Tony’s Chocolonely is not only one of the most popular chocolate brands in…

You can accidentally start loving chocolate or accidentally find out your good at making it. But to accidentally start a company? No that is not an accident LOL.
I find the question funny: how can a European country find a place in us. I am sorry but the last time I checked European chocolate is just way better than us chocolate 😂
NOT BETTER THAN CADBURY THO
this whole time I thought it was called Tony's Chocoloney.. been saying that to people in public
We HATE slavery, but if we pay them anything at all, it's not slavery anymore. And don't ask how much of those $5 per bar go to the guy who planted, tended, harvested and aged the cocoa!
Chocolate colony
On accident? Ok how rich are your parents?
"ethical" grifters who just increased the price of a chocolate bar compared to a regular Cadbury's. But are very good at selling the "sustainable" story, and a lot of people are willing to buy that story.
Does Hershey have cocoa in it?
As someone from the UK I had assumed this was a slightly more ethical, but mainly overpriced chocolate. But having seen this video, and all the work they are doing I fully support the higher prices, and understand that mass produced products can often have a dark secret as to why they are so cheap. They also taste fantastic too – not sure that is anything to do with the ethics of the business but the process they use really does maximise the product. Full credit to the company and the chocolatiers.
In terms of taste, Tony's tastes just very similar to other European chocolate. their story is whats unique about them. Selling in America fighting Hershey's, yea they would win over taste. But isnt any european chocolate going to win over taste from Hershey's?
I found this in our local Aldi UK for 2.99, lots of choc for your money
company got so big it can't guarantee it's good intentions anymore….. capitalism won over ethics yet again.
Hershey’s tastes like 💩
tried this chocolate, it's actually nice
I used to like chocolate until they made them smaller and more expensive.
Smart businessman. Like any other 😉
Probably the farmers just pocket the money and get kid labor anyway, while they arent watching.
Maybe Ryan Renolds can help expand this company. He should have ownership and become then CCO for the company.
"Accidentally"
They saw a business opportunity but decided to pretend to care.
Excuse me, but Hershey's is not chocolate, it's a roof shingle that looks like a chocolate. If you have not tasted non-premium chocolate from Switzerland like Frey, Lotte from Japan, or Ritter from Germany, please do, it's better at this price point, using fresher milk.
As well as their slavery stance, their packaging is also more sustainable than other brands, as it is mostly paper or foil, so can be recycled easily
One of my favorite chocolates!
Green capitalism, nonsense tosh.
I bet those children needed the work for pay……..
lmfao its ironic as fk, that the Dutch of all people, who had enslaved a large portion of africa, are talking about a slave free company.
Too expensive
Such great chocolate and mission 😀
He's actually using slaves. Look it up.
American chocolate is disgusting
I like Whitikers more
I'd believe Feastables is more ethical than Tony's. 🤡
Nestle pays private military to murder innocent people in order to take their land. Enjoy your blood chocolate
20 years on the market and not profitable OMG
