The Easiest Foreign Language for English Speakers? #languageenthusiasts #foreignlanguagelearning
Afrikaans is probably the easiest foreign language to learn for an English native speaker. About 17 million people speak it as either an L1 or L2 language in South Africa and Namibia. In terms of anicent languages, it would be Luwian.

Shouldn't be Frisian rather? Afrikaans is creole Dutch, i.e. a Frankish dialect…
Scots is probably even easier.
I genuinely did not expect that answer concerning old languages. Is Hittite in fact easier than Latin?
I’d argue Norwegian, for modern, actually. The vocabulary is at least as related (and, given phonology, arguably more recognizable), and the syntax- unlike Dutch, Afrikaans, or German- is nearly identical. I was astonished by how close English and Norwegian are, when I began studying the latter. If we started from Old English, Dutch might be the easier choice… I’m also a bit confused as to why you chose Afrikaans rather than standard Dutch, or, indeed, Frisian.
Great content. Love the channel.
Modern: Afrikaans
Ancient: Hyroglyphic Leuvian | Anatolian Languages.
Excellent recommendations mate!
On a side note id also say for a modern language: Frisian, the only hard part is finding literature and study guides.
For an ancient, id say Sanskrit, mostly because of its sheer abundency of material and well as the suprising number of etomologically related words.
