  1. i dont know where we are going as a nation, politicians are selfish dont care about the poor. problems will always comes but politicians dont help the poor, this problem was avoidable but look were we are busy begging from international community. its a bad imagine for zambia as we were regarded as middle income country. today we are poor

  2. Provide strategic views not just relying on consumption when will majority Zambians learn to be innovate and strategic in situation like this, the man is already advocating for irrigation and early maize farming while taking measures in making it easy to acquire irrigation equipment's, what of you what is your contribution and your innovations for you and the majority to benefit so that we don't encounter such in future? not just always blaming, condemning, hating and down grading, awe naimwe change!! you talk too much without works.

  3. mr president,U sold the reserved maize, now that this drought has hit zambia u want to turn our name into beggars, this idea can only be used by a person with no direction and not from u master mind.

  4. The entire world has been facing droughts because of climate change for over 30 years! I live in New Mexico (USA). This is the desert Ba na Zambia! When i first moved here from New York (Due to rent and immigration issues) it didn't rain for ten years! it became so hot that air conditioning didn't work. People would drive at night to avoid being stuck in the heat if their car broke down (Old cars were breaking down due to the heat). Life was hard (And not just in New Mexico, but other desert states as well). Zambians who came to visit me swore never to return! But no-one starved. You know why? irrigation! food was still grown. Zambia has never had a drought like the droughts experienced in the USA! A drought like the one i lived through would have killed half of Zambia! My beautiful people of Zambia, we need a nationwide irrigation system. It is simple, we tell the foreign mining companies to pay for it. Here is the bill. if they refuse, get out of Zambia! Texas, California, the country of France, all wealthy because of irrigation and agro processing! we need a president and government that will make this a priority, instead of giving tax holidays to foreign mining companies that are stealing our wealth,

  5. When it was Edgar Lungu we were told that it is not climate change but incompetence by our president. Why should we accept his own argument that climate change is the reason why we are facing load-shedding.

  6. I started school in 1958 by then I was quite observant and I can honestly say I have never seen anything like what is happening now. Remember nature is very unpredictable this drought can reoccur for several years to come. It is so unreasonable to blame anyone for this disaster. The International Community only helps if you declare your disaster.

  7. The reason we had to export maize was so we can pay the farmers who supplied the maize because PF didn’t pay them. At that time we had enough. Also when the info about draught were made the govt embarked in winter maize which is currently being harvested. So they did react. Where I see an issue is with regards to investment into irrigation farming – I feel the govt needs to support subsistence farmers on this and it shouldn’t just be on the rich. As for Emmanuel Mwamba – he is an alarmist so I dont trust his utterances. His job is to oppose. Well meaning Zambians are currently putting resources together to help with food security. Even our neighbouring countries like Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya are offering support whilst the likes of em are busy pointing fingers.

  8. Charcoal Charcoal and Charcoal!
    No trees, no rain!
Yet, we don't seem to have policy direction on rampant deforestation happening at alarming levels now with these ZESCO power cuts!
What is Boma doing to transition our people from Charcoal to Cooking gas?
We cannot say we have annual tree planting ceremonies as mitigating measures when trees take years to mature to have any impact on our weather situation!
We cannot just wake up and criminalize the cutting of trees. We need to offer alternatives and transition towards banning Charcoal production!
Make cooking gas cheaper and demand for Charcoal will go down!
One of the National values we rarely talk about is Stewardship of our Environment and that includes protecting our Forests and Water recharge points!
We should not be surprised if we get another drought 2024 – 2025 rain season! It's the Law of cause and effect at play! You can't expect normal climatic conditions with the level of irresponsible deforestation going on currently! As long as we don't ban charcoal and control the rate of Deforestation, we should expect adverse climatic conditions!
If we don't learn anything from this drought and come up with drastic measures to reverse the desertification of Zambia, even the irrigation strategy will come to nothing at some point.
We must address the root causes at our local level!
