This is about a slum but so much more than that. Because when you hear βslumβ you think miserable people living miserable lives. But no. Not in Makoko. Thereβs a sense of something else: happiness? Yes. I do believe so. Not that they donβt want or need more. They do. But still – the sense of community glows above and beyond the poverty. Beautifully shot documentary by Turkish doc filmmakers.

Where is their pride in their homes and life?" Pick up the nasty trash and it won't look so slummy or keep living like a pig.

I have to say i big thank you to these guys and the whole of AFRICA. Thank you for accepting the conditions yous are made to live. Thank you for accepting our rubbish and keeping our lands clean! Thank you for allowing me and the west to benefit from the resources that came from your lands, technology and materialistic things. If it was not for you guys accepting this way of life, we would not be able to enjoy the nicer things in life. Thank you for not standing up and fighting back against the west looting your lands resources because if yous did the west world would crumble and we would not be able to afford anything. Left right yelling left picking up the right leg bruhhhπ
It's a grotesque shame that Western society has dictators that demand the censorship of the human body, threatening financial loss and ostracization through banning. We're devolving in our first world countries but we watch films like this as of it were no different than a trip to the zoo.
These humans are living a far greater truth despite the travesty of corruption and greed they've fallen victim to for centuries.
Primitive.
Wow this makes mubi slums look like million airs row….
I dnt think this is Nigeria ..never heard of makoko…only makoko I know is on camaroon
I donβt understand how people letting their habitat become so nasty?!
They refer to the boats as 'rudimentary canoes', but they're clesrly being built by skilled, experienced craftsmen. Smacks of condescension to me.
The dead know nothing until the resurrection. The blacks in New Orleans celebrate a funeral like this, traditional.
Whenever I see places like this, I feel like rebuilding everything for them.
The black man is totally confused. In the midst of poverty
The opening with the funeral is really uplifting. The daughter Sarah is such a dignified and wise young woman, We should celebrate one's passing this way in NA if one has not passed away in disgrace, if they were loved by the community and were a fun jovial person, why not do as she said; celebrate the last day you will have with their body on earth and celebrate their life? I am thinking of You as type things "crazy Legs" Clayton Jones. people loved you.
Nigeria like most of Africa is still being controlled by itβs former colonial masters
Felt Sad n sorry. Hope Biren n co.realised their mistakes n rectify before it's too late
The main thing that stuck out to me was the preachers wearing shiny flash watches.
What a unique society. I never knew this existed until now.
What is the name of a charity to fund kids that wants to go to school there?
