Ghanaian media personality, Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), has taken to social media to address friends who seemed disappointed and are being distant for his political choice of supporting the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.

In the said post, KOD who appeared disappointed asserted that at his age, he was capable of making his own decisions and determining his own political views and beliefs.

He was emphatic that his own family members had different political views without any stress. 

In his post, KOD made it clear that he will not be swayed by their opinions, stating, “At my age, you want to determine my political views? No, I’m old enough to think for myself!”

The radio personality and fashion enthusiast has been open about his support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), a stance that has apparently led to disagreements with some of his friends.

He wrote: “Some people will get distant as “FRIENDS” because you have chosen a side to support politically. Meanwhile, you stayed their friends when they made their political choice.

“At my age, you want to determine my views and beliefs? Eeeeish! You no dey respect like that?

“Even my family members have different political views, so really…

“Note: they were NEVER your friends in the first place. 

“Tell them to F! off”.

KOD’s declaration has reignited the spotlight on the political landscape in our region, where political differences are often viewed as adversarial.  While critics argue that celebrities should remain apolitical, unifying figures who transcend partisan divisions, the ongoing debate suggests a shift towards embracing their active participation in politics. 

By doing so, they can contribute to the decision-making process, advocating for the growth and development of the creative industry.
