I have no idea why that woman's story about her husband made me so angry. You would think it was m family or something. These people are lucky that we are civilized in the West and nothing like our 19th century counterparts in Europe and US. From my understanding from somalians piracy started after foreign nations continued coming in to over fish their waters and destroyed the reefs in the process.

Just answering because I saw some users who wondered why people in such countries have so many children, even if they can't afford to grow them (probably YouTube's algorithm deleted it because it contained inappropriate words, even if there was nothing wrong in the overall context? I get that awareness to prevent retraumatization is a thing, but at such an extent we are turning this to a taboo topic).
Inaccessibility to birth control options and lack of education about their importance, criminalization of abortions, early marriage (probably because some families want to get rid of the girls who aren't as "useful" from a financial standpoint- female labor force participation in Somalia is around 20%) that usually leads to relationships with significant age disparity whose only purpose is to have children (it's not like there are any state agencies that will punish them for bad custody evaluation anyways) and lack of sexual violence awareness (they still have "marry your abuser" laws which evinces their approach on this issue and shows that they prioritize family's pride and finances over the well-being of the victims with anything that this could mean about the extent of the problem or even what they consider sexual abuse- Somaliland women are currently facing the consequences of fighting against this situation) are some of the reasons that lead to this phenomenon. The lack of a welfare state could be added as an extra reason. Elders and sick are being caretaken by their family members since there is nobody else with legal or moral responsiblity to do it. They share certain household roles among their multiple wives and children.

Pirates in somalia were over a decade ago, so somalia is one of the best countries in Africa right now.
I visited it two years ago,every-thing was fine so I love somalia ..the weather,the people and more ,I would like to visit back one day.

I was in the Navy and worked on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier.this could have ended very badly for everyone involved.thankfully it didn't.i wish all Somalis peace and happiness. I'm sorry the ladies husband passed…and in the US lobster is very expensive but I love it and could eat everyday…..so to everyone in Somalia..please enjoy that lobster you all are very fortunate to have it..stay safe Anton and everyone else.
