Mining is environmentally destructive not because it belongs to Chinese. The other reason is once the operation is profitable the local elites want to take over. They will find all sorts of reasons to take over. This happens even in developed countries like the USA. Good examples are the take over of ZTE and attempting to take over of Tik Tok and Huawei on national security grounds.
