  1. African soccer has not improved at all because we are not technical at a fundamental level & we don't actually have a futboling culture. What we do have is a playing and consuming culture and this is why we can't get better coaching with identifable styles of play. We simply don't have a futboling sensibility transmitted from our managers. We all play the same, comical, fear based futbol, averse to risk futbol.

What Europeans clubs love about us, power & athleticism, has forced us into a kind of futbol monoculture where we export the same tired product and limit our ability to diversify our footballing culture. The patterns of play are non-existent, the mid fielders technically limited, the finishing beyond comical & the goalies are beyond outdated with their inability to distribute the ball. The North Africans tend to be better because they have a footballing culture that is hospitable to expressing yourself and injecting some of those street elements we grew up with.

We've essentialized ourselves with a limited type of futbol that ussually falters in the world cup.

As a Kenyan, i was rooting for Tanzania but i knew Zambia would give them a problem, even with a man down, because they don't know how to manage a game without epic anxiety or the fear of making a mistake. Possession futbol requires risk and we seem apathetic to that element of modern futbol, which means our defenders are uncomfortable on the ball.

  2. African football needs better game conditions…how in the world programming games at 2 pm with a very hard climate hot & humid, expecting to have high level play!!! In Qatar WC 22 it was hot and humid too but they offered air conditioned stadiums, CAF should do something about that!

  3. A lot of draws so far and a lot of missed chances. African football is defiantly getting better but we need to learn how to finish. But great performance from all the teams so far. I am Tunisian and I think we need to get better if we want to go to the World Cup. We make a lot of mistakes and can’t finish. The chemistry is not there either sometimes. Much love to all my African brothers and sisters !
