Thank you for this post, because a lot of us introverts have been told this most of our lives.
As a therapist I secretly cringe when people say this casually 🤦🏻♀️😅
Thanks
🤦🏾♀️Im guilty of misusing this word
I tell ppl im socially anxious. I could be using this wrong as well 😅
I can't stand when ppl use that word incorrectly. It makes me cringe
Someone who has it and knows what it means would probably still not answer yes to these questions… I understand your point but I feel like this is a lil silly
….welcome to another episode of academics forgetting that colloquial and clinical definitions are both valid even if they differ wildly. The clinical definition of asocial and colloquial definition of anti-social are synonymous, pretending they arent is some weird psychology student elitism thats on par with all the worst ills of literary prescriptivism.
We can't help the English language is stupid doc. ❤
This is super common mistake xD I sometimes use antisocial accidentally when i mean asocial 😅😅
But "unsociable" is an acceptable definition in a non-clinical setting.
This is very misleading as you’re claiming that when people are being antisocial, they are claiming to have a personality disorder. Those two things are not necessarily the same. If you look at the definitions of antisocial, one of them is “often avoiding spending time with other people”. Whilst some of what was said are also alternative definitions for antisocial, they are not exclusively so and saying that people are using it incorrectly because they’re not using the DSM diagnostics for “antisocial personality disorder” is silly. They’re not trying to diagnose a disorder within themselves. Please check a dictionary first before you claim that people are using words incorrectly. English and psychology are two very different fields of study.
You're using that word incorrectly, not wrong.
I was so tired of telling this people in the comments they would never take me seriously cause "I'm just another commenter thst doesn't know anything"
😆 merci! It is literally my mistake
Finally, someone clears this up!!! Thank you
Also I thought what you were describing was called being a sociopath because all of that is my father. Are those also trademarks of a sociopath or is that something totally different?
Such a good way to explain complicated concepts !!!
Makes those “AntiSocial Social Club” hoodies sounds like Fight Club merch now!
Okay! Thank you!
Preach!💐💖
