Our hair texture naturally holds braids and and cornrows. Straight hair does not hold braids and cornrows the same. Braiding our hair holds the natural oils in the hair so the hair does not dry out. It is in the bend of the curl that absorbs the oil keeping it from drying out. Straight hair does not absorb the oil, hence the "rat tail". The oil slides down the hair shaft. Washing our hair everyday would wash out the natural oils and we are left with a fuzz ball on our heads and plenty of split ends. What a mess.
These hair wars are ridiculous. Let everyone have the hair style they want. No one owns a certain hair style. Braids ands locs have been around in many cultures around the world long before there were any African Americans.

I don't see a problem of anyone wearing braids, of whatever style. It's just a protective hairstyle. Just don't claim to be the originators of this protective hairstyle. People of African descent are the creators of this hairstyle. I have better things to worry about than what these other non-black people are doing.

HOWEVER, there are certain braided hairstyles that are unique to African and African American culture. When these non black groups descide to wear braids, they don't wear braiding styles from their culture, they copy black peoples hairstyles. And when they get called out on it they'll say 'The vikings wore braids!' Give me a break, where was this pride in viking hairstyles amongst white people in the 1800s, 1900s, 1950s 1990s, etc.?
