The internet is full of unsubstantiated anecdotal stories by highly religious individuals claiming all sorts of fantastic stories about NDEs.
In brain function local brain regions go offline one after another during brain trauma and shut down. The brain, whose substrate is whichever neurons remain intact, then does what we know the brain always does, it tells a story shaped by a person’s experience, memory and cultural expectations. [as in dreams] There is no mystery or anything supernatural here.
