Its not easy for SA to help other African countries when it comes to such issues (elections). Its not possible to tell some one you are wrong if you have done the same thing before. However, I must express my concerns. I was quite young at the time, but as a student of international relations, I observed the inaction during Thabo Mbeki’s presidency. When Zimbabwe faced a crisis similar to what we now see in Mozambique, Mbeki did absolutely nothing. This lack of intervention was disappointing then, and it’s disheartening to see the same pattern continuing today in Sudan, the DRC, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe.
Even if South Africa were to strengthen itself economically and politically, I fear it won’t escape the trajectory that many other African nations have followed. As a dominant country in the Southern African region, South Africa continues to act irresponsibly, failing to take a leadership role in fostering regional stability. This is not only embarrassing but also deeply concerning for the future.
That’s why platforms like yours, which are independent and unafraid to speak the truth, are so important. Channels like yours must continue to report on these critical issues facing our country and region. If we do not hold our leaders accountable and demand better, we too may find ourselves without anything to pass on to future generations. Let us remain vigilant and committed to change before it’s too late.
