  1. I'm turning 19 in exactly 30 days and I really needed this, my strict divorced parents situations is also not helping me at all.
    Thanks a lot again doctor

  2. As much as traumatic situations suck, I definitely made it through them by adapting. Still working through bits, but I feel like they're things I can overcome with practice. I don't want to be rigid. I've seen how that goes and it's not for me.

  3. Please keep making accessible videos such as these which is really helpful for others, I cannot afford to help you right now to makes mental health accessible for others but I really am looking forward to be able to do so even when it's in really less numbers 😊

  4. Imagine taking a baII of non-consciousness from a peaceful nothingness.. to make it conscious and telling it "Make it work. Adapt" I will forever have resentment. But anyway, back to adapting.

  5. I would love to hear about how to use this insight of not saying "this does not work for me" in the context of trying to find strategies to cope with ADHD symptoms. It feels like when you say that we should adapt to the Advice given and try to make it work for us (ex meditation in the moring) contradicts the usual thing that psychiatrists will say which is that we should find out what stratégies work for us and not take advice from folks who do not understand adhd. Are both of these two approache valid?

  6. I gotta say, I agree with a solid 97% of what you’re saying. But this has to be the most disappointing lecture to date, for me atleast.
My mind tends to compartmentalize things and separate things into different categories. So while I’m VERY adaptable with certain things my brain has deemed “worth it” or “important”to change, I’m not so adaptable with other things (which of course I’m trying to change)

I’ve always been very competitive with the games I play, and constantly willing to evolve and get better, and take criticism (easy to do, since playing games is separated from everything else in my life). Learning this from games has actually served to help me be more adaptable elsewhere.

On the other hand, you seem to have an all or nothing kind of mindset. Where if you’re not adaptable in certain areas, you won’t be adaptable elsewhere. Fundamentally though, I think this video is meant mostly for allistic people that go “all or nothing” and struggle seeing beyond 2 patterns of thought, when on the other hand, I’ve been thinking in shades of grey my entire life.

Guess even not all advice is perfect, and to take advice that helps you evolve. Don’t fall into the trap of becoming maladaptive, and not all advice is “good” advice either. You can try and understand bad advice, but being overly reciprocal to bad advice can only make you maladaptive. Not all adaptation are good ones, and having some skepticism is always good.

  7. In my experience I'm usually saying that doesn't work for me when everyone's solution is Marijuana 😂🤣😂🤣 It was never the solution for me. The gym was and after 10+ yrs I just go to stay fit the mental benefits aren't there anymore

  8. I don't think you should adapt to a truly abusive relationship, but a lot of people stay in those relationships because they feel like they can't adapt to a life outside of that relationship.

  9. As someone on the autism spectrum the black and white thinking aspect used to be such a setback. After working on my ability to be okay with vagueness, unawareness, and accepting that multiple opposing instances can be true at once, I can very much say that it's easier to live and I'm also a much more likeable person! ✨

  10. Black and white thinking is extremely popular in the fitness industry. coaches will have an advice and will tell you that this is the only way to improve (E.g full range of motion when lifting). and will also demonize the other ( partial reps). but at the end of the day, BOTH tend to work in certain conditions or work to some extent.

  11. I wonder how to be more adaptable if my unconscious is very much against any change whatsoever. As the status quo is ideal in it's perspective. Trying to change my unconscious hasn't produced anything of value. I can change my conscious self but not my unconscious self. The goal I'm trying to achieve is unnumb my emotions which is probably caused by trauma.

  12. I'm confused about something. There's an entire video in the guide about falling behind and how it's a construct of the mind and how we need to let go of the idea of catching up (which is something that I really struggle with), yet in other videos – such as this one – Dr. K will mention being behind in life, which to me is giving validity to the construct… Can someone try to explain this discrepancy to me?

  13. Could you possibly create a video with this same sentiment, but targeting younger women not into gaming? For instance struggling with work, exercise, diet, parenting and similar situations? This would be super helpful for my girl and I'm sure many others, but the delivery of this context doesn't directly relate to them and would loose interest and likely not pay full attention as it's not relatable to them enough to actually focus? Or possibly recommend another video from yourself or another positive influence who might be able to help. Thank you. I try hard to implement your sentiment to your videos every day, but my girl is very much the opposite and I try my best to adapt, but she is very unwilling without even knowing, so I do my best, but would love to see improvement from her, but its so incredibly hard to get her to actually focus on see the theory behind the videos for multiple reasons that would be a very long list.. very black and white in her mind. I try to show her, and sometimes I get through in some ways, but not of much significance, especially long term.

    Please!
