  1. The issue with wizkid is that he says his not afrobeat yet all his hits are build on afrobeats music and collaborations. Unlike Burna boy he can’t produce hits in any other category besides afrobeats and even at that his been struggling to make another hit since essence which was only a hit through afrobeats collaborations. If wizkid is not afrobeats then he should go and make hits in other genres to prove his versatility.

  2. If you want to standout be anomaly…go abit outside the parttern.

    Demand vs Supply
    Trend vs Viral
    Quantity vs Quality
    Scarcity vs Supplus
    Amusement vs Boredom
Name it wrong then the foundation is weakned.

  3. Saying Afrobeat is bland or boring is mainly because the said artist is losing ideas/creativity.

There are many artists out there still producing amazing sounds with Afrobeats, Asake has this choir hooks with amapiano, Rema fuaes Arabian melodies, Victony is doing very brilliantly 👏 . Artists should just step up, instead of complaining.

Its just absurd really, its tantamount to wanting R&B to be different or Country music to be different. It cant be, it'll alwaus be the same, but its your job to make it seem different, thats the essence of you being a musician, so stop whining,

  4. You know what wiz is actually right. His music has shifted to something like Asa’s style over the years. And even her description labels her as a “versatile” artist and not confined to any genre.

  5. For talking shit about Wizkid you lost a follower and i believe you will loose more cause you don’t understand him cause you ain’t in is shoes or level so keep quiet

  6. They leave Afrobeats for all they want but in the eye of the listens they will forever be Afrobeats artists. If you don't want to be associated with Afrobeats don't use it as a spring board when you where unknown.

  7. I'm just hearing that Whizkid is turning his back on afrobeat. For weeks, I've had him on my mind and i've had this strong feeling that he needs to get back into the spirit of his startup and make songs in the kind of "I LOVE MY BABY" and "KPAKURUMO". his true originality and talent shone back then. I don't care what his achievements are today, I've not kept tabs on him for almost 7years because almost all his songs sound the same. So to me, this is a welcome development.

  8. The mistake Ghanaian artistes made in the 90s and early 2000s when hiplife was the ish b4 they started claiming hip thiship that. It'd be interesting to see african music 10 years from now

  9. Wizkid is tired of being pigeonholed by listeners. Afrobeats is quite formulaic these days both theme wise and music wise, new trend comes and people hop on (Asake amapiano use and choral hooks, going back). Now this is OK, but then its an issue when you can Never make it as a big artist without subscribing to the formula. Check the alte genre and you'll see guys who push the needle and try to innovate but they're tossed there and ostracize. Rema has songs in his catalogue like HOV and Reason You, gets really varied productions and does his best to push the boundaries but even then it has to be a bakancing act with songs like Charm and Holiday (which then do better than the other ones.

Victony is a good example, he used to rap back in uni, and yes he's a good singer but no way he would've made it as a rapper, look at how many years Blaqbonez toiled and his mainstream album Emeka Must Shine isnt as good as Young Preacher (whose lead song didnt win rap song of the year because if Declan rice smh)…

Check out the indie guys, and the alte guys, and upcoming guys, and there'll you'll see more innovation than in the mainstream. Also the point about production is true, and links back to the formulaic thing. If it works why change it and risk anything? So eveyrbody does the same thing, waiting for Sarz or someone else to bring a new idea.

  10. I don't hate afto beats. I just don't like using the same sound with others.
I recently met an upcoming afrobeat artist and i freestyled to an afrobeat and he was like i should drop my accent and try to sing the afobeat way as that's what's trending.
I love rnb and trap music and that's what im used to and I won't change cause of a damn feature.
    Also… I'm in lagos…
