I think it was a conscious decision on part of The Pokémon Company in order to have an original name that wasn't origjnated from the fandom. This could've been done for multiple reasons: Because they came up with the name instead of using a fan name now they have legal rights over that term, allowing them to pute copyright on it. Other plausible reasons is that The Polémon Company deeply hates its fans and everything they do and they also make atupids decisions over and over again.
