Why Kilimanjaro's Glaciers Are Melting

Red Bull ice climber, Will Gadd, embarks on a mission to have one last shot at climbing the glaciers of Mount Kilimanjaro. In 2014, Will made several first ascents of Kilimanjaro’s ice towers. Now, as the mountain’s iconic ice cap disappears rapidly, he returns to make a last ascent. During those elapsed years, some glaciers on Mt…

  1. These glaciers are from the ice age of course they are melting every year they have been since the ice age ended, why does everyone act like these glaciers are supposed to be permanent, I am not saying that we haven’t created warmer temperatures with carbon but climate change is going to happen regardless. The climate will change with the temperature and the temperature has been changing sense the beginning of time, I don’t understand why people think it is just going to stop we could stop all carbon tomorrow and their would still be no stopping this. Sooner or later it will begin to get cold again and go back into an ice age.

  2. Doug means well, he's a nice guy, but he's wrong. CO2 has nothing to do with storms or moisture coming in from the ocean (even the IPCC agrees with this). That's caused by the big oceanic circulation patterns and natural variance over centuries. Most equatorial glaciers are retreating. In the 1600s, a tremendous amount of ice built up on summits like this, and back in the 1300s, there was much less. Around 7000 BCE, most of the summits were likely ice free. CO2 is not the driver. In another 2,000 years, there will be MUCH more snow on top as precession and obliquity start to reverse the trend from the holocene maximum. Talk with atmospheric scientists. This is great storytelling, and it's important if you want to increase your research budget, but the true cause has nothing to do with humans, and it is poor science. Some glaciers are growing, most are shrinking. It would be exactly like this without any humans. The ice has been building up and sublimating away for hundreds of thousands of years.

  3. Says preachy Red-Bull dude “that’s it, I’m using less carbon!”…..

But….um……how you gettin’ home now, rad Red-Bull dude???

  4. Well Red Bull own a F1 team, they own multiple factories, a sports team. Too much environmental waste from the activities of all these things to even consider creating this video.

  5. Glaciers have a purpose in there time frame, they will melt to carve out what they were intended for to do…no mystery here, its all part of the geo chronology set into motion from day one till the end of the age… man cant prevent this, man did not create this, man cant fix this, it will continue on its course as a reminder that you are created not the creator, you cant change what God spoke into existence, this life is not eternal but is an hour glass counting down to the end of the age…

  6. Bud flys all over the planet for a career, but now he’s flying home to buy an electric scooter to contribute to his new epiphany of lowering personal carbon omissions, Bud sleeps better and dreams about his next sponsored trip….
