Why I would NEVER return to Morocco ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

These SCAMS are relentless in this country I was only here for one day and we encountered countless scammers, hustlers and touts. A country with an incredible history and amazing people but unfortunately a huge issue with scammers. This is Morocco

  1. Like this video if you hate scammers. It helps the video grow to expose these people ๐Ÿ‘ I witnessed innocent old couples fall for these scams and pay huge amounts to these people ๐Ÿ’€

  2. This shit is why going on holiday outside of Europe is scary, they see a white person and try to scam them. Right away.

Iโ€™m going to Morocco soon and Iโ€™m nervous about this, Iโ€™m half thinking I should just wear full blown Muslim attire and keep my face down so they think Iโ€™m a local unless they look really close ๐Ÿ˜‚

  3. I'll never go back either, but not because we got scammed โ€“ well, we kinda did, but it wasn't violent at all.
Went in 2017 to Marrakesh with my wife.
We'd been warned and I'd done a ton of research.
We booked all our excursions via the Riad I booked โ€“ and I spent a LOT of time researching various Riads in Marrakesh.
Ours was in the old city, within the walls, which we wanted.

After the initial culture shock of airport, to taxi, into old city โ€“ the sheer madness of it โ€“ our Riad, as in this video, was a bastion of calm.
The next day, we hired a guide via the Riad who took us through the Souk. He taught us a LOT. The best thing he taught us, was how to "blank" the many annoying people trying to sell you stuff, politely but firmly.
He totally warned us about going off by ourselves and said you WILL encounter scary/bad individuals if you head toward the very touristy bits of the Souk โ€“ e.g. where they do leather tanning.
We got close to that with the guide, it stank, we no longer wanted to go there.

Thing is, our guide took us to all his mates, didn't he! โ€“ and at each stop, carpets, spices, clothes and leather goods etc., you just knew the price had been specially inflated in the same breath of the intensity being dialed down. However, it was fun โ€“ never felt threatend, I'm immune to the hard sell and my wife used to sell cars for a living, so โ€“ whatever.

It's when we went out of the city to the mountains we got ripped off, big time.
It was supposed to be an "all in one" price, Taxi, get to mountains, guide etc.
Turns out, when we got to the mountains, we had to pay extra for the guide.
Then we were left in the middle of nowhere for hours, as the taxi driver buggered off.
We were led through a crappy crafts market area etc.
There was no real hard sell, except for the fact, no way back. No taxi.

We ended up buying something and as if by magic, there was a guy with a Taxi waiting to take us back to our Riad.

Yeah โ€“ loved Morocco for many things, but not for the total rip-off nature โ€“ you can absolutely be put into a position on the back foot and have to pay to get out.

    Not nice.

  4. There is also the corrupt police scams: The are police stops everywhere and they enjoy stopping your car for nothing and demand you to pay an invented fine without giving you any paper proof of course.
And the friendly guide scam: A person approaches you asking you all kind of questions simulating to wanted to be your friend and promising things like inviting you the next Friday to eat couscous with his family, etc. He ends begging you to let him to show you the most beautiful part of the neighborhood that you must see. He says it in a way that makes you feel unpolite to refuse and if you accept, he just will show you anything nearby and then declare to you that he is a registered touristic guide, and you have to pay him 2000 dh (about 200โ‚ฌ).
BTW: In Morocco is mandatory to install Careem or Indrive to avoid taxis.

  5. That's why I just won't go anymore. I've had similar experiences in Tunisia and Egypt and it just ruins everything. When I spend my hard earned money to go on a holiday I want to feel at ease, relaxed and in peace. And until they don't fix that, I'll spend my money somewhere else. Simple.

  6. I think everyone should simply boycott Marrakesh. It's really giving the whole country a bad rep and that's unfair. Even us Moroccans gets scammed and/or harassed in Marrakesh, so I personally avoid it (last time I was there by choice was 7 years ago). I always tell people, if you want to go to Marrakech, spend 2 days max, see the historical monuments then go outseide of the city to the Atlas mountains where nature is breathtaking and people are genuine and kind.

  7. All countries have scammers so you should not trust everyone and you should be aware ๐Ÿ‘๏ธโ€๐Ÿ—จ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘๏ธโ€๐Ÿ—จ๏ธ

  9. I came to morocco 15-20 times.. i don't like jama el fna, marrakesh. It is filthy and a place where you have to be constantly alert. Rabat is really great. I don't mind the scammers anymore since i know all their tricks. You can be sure that there are much worse scams especially among Moroccans for example corrupt lawyers and judges. Your lawyer will have no problem selling you out.

  10. I just came back from Marrakesh and to be honest, for you not to fall on these scams you just have to be smart, say no and move on, i always walking round with my music and sunglasses, looking Hella confident, people who tried to scam me with directions or pushing me to their stores, gave up in 3 seconds once i said no and left.
It is an amazing place if we know how to walk around there, The only down thing for me was the animals abuse, why do people still want to take pictures with animals_ sad

  11. ** EDIT ** 04:20 will COMPLETELY prove everything that is wrong with them, and why i have clearly mentioned out my story โ€“ I mingle a lot with the international community โ€“ and i can tell you that m0roccans are actually the LEAST likeable sort of people. They are very difficult to give any positive review on. For all possible reasons they are generally very scheming, not nice as an individual and they will talk to you in English less than 5% of the time while trying to stir conversation with you. Generally not nice .. and not exactly good people to be around with.

  12. The city of Fez is the second largest major city in Morocco, but officials do not pay much attention to this city. The unemployment rate is very, very high, and there are no job opportunities for residents, no companies, no transport and logistics companies, nothing, no green places, nothing. It is a city neglected by officials, and it is rife with corruption. The administration and management of this city is its reality, so how do they want to organize the World Cup when it is a major city that is functionally and structurally neglected? As for the lies that they tell the world and all the tourists, it is not the truth. Rather, the truth is that it is a very neglected city of Fez that suffers from a severe shortage of job opportunities, projects and infrastructure. Because those who rule this city, the city of Fez, are thieves who plunder hopes of reform and employment

  13. I had same expierence last year. Scammers wanted to fight me on two occasions. Especialy scam 2 (alley is blocked), super annoying and rude! Tanger and Rabat where easier though. But i still left earlier and skipped the surf trip because it was such a hassle to travel alone.

I traveled in India so I have had my expierence, I thought. The scammers ruined the experience for me and I would not come back as a solo traveler either. Such a shame because Marocco has a lot of potential!

  14. @BackpackerBen usually I don't leave comments, but as a Moroccan living in Morocco there are things which I dislike, the like of people forcing work to get paid, and the laws are not in favour of tourists and the locals! It is illegal to take pictures of people and recording videos, if you do that you're gadget will be confiscated and you may go to prison. Drones are unauthorised, if you use them you get in trouble with the intelligence of Moroccoโ€ฆ I spoke to the Policemen myself about using the camera, I told them I just want to record videos, and I can blur the faces of the people, the policemen said : "what if the people didn't want to get recorded, and you ruin their experience of getting outside to breath air".

Other than that the locals are beautiful, welcoming, and always happy. The nature is perfect and the historical monuments, the beaches, lacs, waterfalls, mountains, desert, snow โ€ฆ everything is charming.

To visit Morocco and enjoy the experience fully, you'll definitely need a Moroccan with you as a friend or a guide.

  15. I love Morocco. I have been 10 times, 5 times as a solo woman. Marrakech is not like other parts of Morocco. But as a poorer country you do have to agree prices for things in advance. Nothing is "free". I have travelled on public transport hassle free in Morocco. Love it so much am thinking of retiring there. The UK weather is terrible. People moan all the time. Moroccans are fantastic, friendly people. Sorry for your experience, but it's not mine.

  16. You can be scammed almost anywhere on this planet including visiting the Vaticanโ€ฆit is because you fail your travel assessment, safety, knowledge and most of all your ignorance amigo.

  17. Always tell scammers you are calling the police. There's always some police near, or gendarmerie or soldiers. See how quickly they will change their attitude.

  18. We have the best transportation in the world. I donโ€™t know if you live in England canโ€™t even find a Parking Pl., Morocco has.Hash but in England, they have a drugs that you would never find the cure for it. Addicted for life injections. Thatโ€™s how you guys die slowly fighting for your life

  19. Do you know, buddy let me tell you this you are hypocrite the title that you posted on your video. It tells a lot about you. Hi myself suggested not to go back there because you donโ€™t deserve that youโ€™re not worth it. I was robbed at Heathrow airport by a British guy, that doesnโ€™t mean all of the bad but I would never go there to England. Thatโ€™s my experience with somebody else might and also I bought a watch in England and I was scammed with fake food is horrible. The service is bad are from the Stone Age. You are so lucky that you get to see the beauty of Morocco but people like you. Should never travel at all stay home and cook for your wife some canned food in your little tiny home that you donโ€™t own paying the mortgage all your life and property taxes

  20. And by the way, scammers are everywhere in the world specially in Europe Iโ€™ve been scammed so many times right in Europe at the airports I havenโ€™t even reached my hotel as you know, Iโ€™m a Moroccan. I had to take tip every single person and the service is not great at all

  21. Living in Morocco compared to England or other countries shows a stark difference. In Morocco, there are luxurious palaces and beautiful residences, and most Moroccans, about 85%, own their homes. Conversely, in England and much of Europe, living spaces can feel cramped and it's common to share accommodation with multiple roommates, often having to label your food to ensure it isnโ€™t taken. Moroccan homes often resemble palaces in their beauty. The food is great and not very expensive, whereas in Europe or other places, you have to buy everything individually, which can be very costly. Many houses in these areas are small and sometimes have a moldy smell. In these European countries, people often work tirelessly, akin to a horse

  22. kingdom of Morocco is the best we welcome everyone I think is one of the best country in the world that were the generosity come from The best people on earth and One advice to you that country is dreamland country. Iโ€™ve been to Morocco so many times I felt like Iโ€™m in heaven on earth you are probably cheap and stingy. You should think twice when you go to that place if you donโ€™t have money Moroccan will offer you that guaranteed hundred percent

  23. When those tossers ask me for money for recording them or taking a photo, I just say you must pay me for talking to me as I charge by the secondโ€ฆ..confuses that crap out of them but tell them each second will cost more lol they soon bugger off.

  24. 1st scam :we don't sell God's we are muslim , 2nd scam :the lady don't enderstand Inglish 3rd scam: why would you go to a Muslim mosque and you Ara actually not muslim 4th scam : we don't use the meter be cause we don't have money for that shit and this is the real tourist price 5th scam: you can get out of the restaurant sooooo easy 6th scam :the snake thing is elegal its like drauges and morocco is trying to stop these things

    ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  25. I have travelled to Maroc 20 X since 1973
