  1. Why is 5,000 residents "more appropriate for an island of this size"? It's a city. Whether it's an island, or attached to countryside is just arbitrary geography. The Maldives is just a bunch of little islands. Well… one of those had to be the capital city.

  2. Such a weird place. It looks like paradise, it has Islam instead of any religion from their big neighbour India, which doesn't make sense, many people avoid coming there because the place is filled with russian tourists and there's nothing worse than that, and for some reason China wants to take over the place (there's no such thing as China's friends, there's only China's interests).

  3. I live in the maldives I am very Happy when i see videos talking about my country

  4. The current government in Maldives has picked up an unnecessary fight with India and it is not safe for tourists as a lot of support from India for medical evacuation, etc. is being dismantled.

  5. I just recently went to the Maldives and made the mistake of visiting Male and I have never been to a place that compares to it.
it's tight, crowded, hot, full of biting insects, traffic is insane (you wouldn't believe how many scooters and cars there are on this tiny piece of land), and I hated every moment of the 4 hours we spent there.

as a positive: the best coffee on the maldives is found on Male, and there is an insanely good thai restaurant as well.

but do yourself a favour when going to the maldives and skip Male. most natives when asked about going there asked us "why would you want to?"

  6. I spent a few days there a few years back. On the way in to dive for a week. I felt I should see the 'real' Maldives… I wouldn't recommend spending any time there.
