In Spain, once you add up all the taxes we pay, about 70% of our salary goes to the State. The same State that has to take 50% of debt each year to be able to fullfil its budget. And maybe about 2/3s of that budget goes away paying state workers and pensioners. In fact the money collected by those 70% in taxes can't cover their paychecks, the State has to take debt for that, and that's not including education, healthcare or justice.
There are more people getting a paycheck from the state than people working privately. Of course those state checks are bigger than the average income for the private worker because 70% of his private earnings go to the State.
And the best part of all is that those pensioners bought their houses and flats to the equivalence of two anual incomes. Dirt cheap, so most of them have several propierties which they rent for more than what the average private income is.
Basically the State buys votes and our families and neighbours betray us. And this won't change until the ECB stops buying State debt
