I’ve been going through this debate my entire life because though I’ve never been to Africa, I’m clearly of African descent, was born in Germany.. both parents, American, but of African descent. You’re not only your DNA, but you are what you have grown up around, what help raised you that determines the culture. I’ve lived in America now since I was 13. Never step foot in Africa. i’m American, some people want to tell me that because I was born in Germany that I’m German, some people want to tell me that I’m African because I have mostly African blood. It’s like how are you gonna tell somebody what they can claim as their culture? Him saying he’s English doesn’t mean that, he feels like he has English blood although he very well could have. It means he’s lived there. He grew up there, the culture is inundated within him. He can call himself ENGLISH. Get a grip.

It never crosses their mind that it is because of what they and their parents, grandparents, great grandparents and so on, did to him, his parents, grandparents, great grandparents, and so on, that this man by force and against his will is in a situation where he knows nothing about where she claims he should call himself from.
