What is a Co-operative?

Co-operatives give people control over things that matter to them. There are nearly 7,000 independent co-operatives working across the economy. They contribute £37 billion to the British economy and are owned by 15 million people across the country.

I studied Economics in College and my University encouraged me to study Co-ops with a small grant of money. Good Philosophers or Marketing agents can make any company sound great. And while I should not be influenced by insults as a researcher one thing I learned during my study of co-ops is that nothing prevents people from being people. One co-op leader claimed to advocate Slavery. I don't know if he believed slavery would solve all of the countries problems. Or there were people who were insulting and hostile… possibly because i WAS an outsider and not welcome. There are a lot of ideas in the world and suggestions on how to make life better. Good luck.

That's impressive! Co-operatives play a crucial role in empowering individuals and boosting the economy. It's remarkable to see the positive impact they have on millions of people in the country.

There is a grocery chain in the USA called Publix. They sell shares of stock exclusively to their workers. This motivates workers to work harder and give better service so their business performs better. It also keeps control local and allows decisions to be made by people who see the company's day to day operations first hand. It has often been called "the democratization of business" or "The people's capitalism"

Credit unions are a great example of this.
