What can we learn from Tropical Modernist buildings? | BBC News
The late 1940s saw the rise of Tropical Modernism – it was a style of architecture that took the simple design of modernism and adapted it into cool buildings for hot and humid climates.
So, why is there now a growing interest in this type of design?

Circular building is the best for dealing with climate
Beautiful
We need buildings that require less artificial cooling and heating.
I love it.
Tropical modernism is not something the British invented.. its inspired by long used traditional architectural techniques in these countries like India by local architects.
That they are unsafe and prone to collapse?….florida!
💢
….erm…NOTHING….because BRITAIN IS NOT IN THE TROPICS…..ffs🙄..,.fck off…🖕
I finally went to the V&A exhibition last Saturday and was pleasantly surprised!
bbc will do anything to make a video on black people, unless it's about crime stats, then they'll have a stock image of whitey in handcuffs
My main country's architecture.
One of the best display of tropical modernism architecture is Sài Gòn, Việt Nam
Too many hollow, meaningless, pointless, buzzwords to say nothing. They invented and pioneered nothing, just mediocrity. All countries hot or cold build historically cabins/huts/mudhuts based on their climate to keep the heat out with high ceiling or keep the cabin hot in cold climate by having low ceilings….. for 1000s of years.
Just copy what the locals have been doing and dont take credit for it by renaming, rebranding their stuff as yours.
NEVER NEVER NEVER in my favourite traditional town. ⛔⛔⛔
These buildings are ugly like in the Soviet Union. How can a building provide cooling? It can only delay entrance for heat if the walls are thick and there are few windows. A "breeze soley" is supposed to be shielding windows from a high sun like a roof overhang. If you provide a forced draft, that allows people to sweat, but it is not truly cool, and might piss off someone who gets a headache. No windows also keeps flies out.
I previously worked in a theater where the studio room was 4 rooms away from the nearest window. It was built of rock/cement. It stayed cool up to the closing time in June. But eventually warmed up when we returned in August.
Surely that they are colonialist? Along with all the technologies that lead to building them.

I LOVE TROPICAL MODERNIST BUILDINGS, integrating climate
Love it. Keep planting keep digging keep dreaming keep nature on your doorstep and we'll all go to heaven in a little row boat ❤
They are even better and functional than the whitewashed buildings we are seeing everywhere in Nigeria today.
Like the BBC News room according to insider’s, soulless. …..
Seen enough.
You usually have that look on your face that is stuck forever.
Ah, modernism, buildings with the rich personality of a parking garage…
What you reap is what you sow.
