This is good history and enriching. Why?
Because it was as if I was speaking, and I wasn't even there.
Its good to learn from first hand accounts how desperately stupid people can be when they put their mind to it.
It's true the combat soldiers may or may not be guilty humanitarian atrocities but certainly in the programmed belief ideology which gave them the thinking the atrocities were emotionally troubling were necessary for success of the overall goal to dominate their neighbors and balance the scale for what Germany suffered as a result of WW-1.
We can forgive in most of the programmed individuals, an ideology is as powerful as any high addictive drug.
But the programmers are behind these ideologies cannot be forgiven for atrocities. Hitler and direct cronies thought up the ideology , it's methods, it's goals, and it's enemies.
One other component, in fact the main component is money, great sums of money along willingness by major privately owned corporations of the wealthy elites. Napoleon had them, Hitler had them , the Israeli had them and now the Zelenskyy regime in Ukraine.
So whose most responsible for these human atrocities ?
My grandfather was,on the mother's side,was in SS Unit from Bosnia Handžar division.,they gave up fighting in 1945 in may in Berlin.

My uncles who fought with the US Army in France, Ardennes and Germany, said that while other German units would either retreat or surrender after putting up a fight, the SS troops would usually stand and fight until they were seriously beaten. And they admitted that very few SS officers above the rank of senior sergeant were "allowed to be taken prisoner."

In all except two W-SS divisions officers had also served in the camps. In 1941 one third of the Einsatzgruppe were by design drawn from W-SS other ranks. The W-SS was a continuum without a clear boundary between those engaged in the mass murder of Jews and others and those who did not.
every ss soldier knew about the jew genocide. they fought amazingly well, for a criminal.
Thank you for putting a human connection to a very difficult subject. This is an important piece of history that has been told here. While stationed in Germany in the late 80s, you could still feel the shroud of shame that hung over the German people because of this very subject.

Finally, real history. Sick of the bullshit history that the allies were all just and honorable and the Germans were tyrants killing everything. Both sides had atrocities, both sides had evil but both sides also had the vast majority of soldiers fighting for their nations and nothing more. Hell, the Russians did more war crimes then both sides combined yet he was called Uncle Joe. We firebombed a city of civilians in Dresden along with all of Germany and Japan then used nuclear weapons, yet no charges were brought even though was a crime. Does a serious injustice to call these men animals when they did so much of which few would even try today.
You know what they did to SS members on the Eastern Front? Don't you? When they were captured, every soldier was checked by the Red Army for a tattoo in their armpit… if one was found, they were shot immediately! That is the truth and the reason why SS soldiers fought to the death, they knew what would happen to them if they were captured… and on the Eastern Front it was the rule that German soldiers always carried their last cartridge in the breast pocket of their shirt or jacket! Then they could decide whether they wanted to be taken prisoner by the Russians or not… they all knew what awaited them in Russian captivity. It was certain death. I was told about it myself by my grandfather. By the way, more German soldiers died in captivity after the end of the war than were killed in combat on all fronts during the war combined. That is a fact that is often forgotten today or simply not mentioned anymore! But what am I saying! You all only know the Allied narrative of the war anyway… right?
It took 50 countrys to defeat Germany. Whether it was money or man power. Germany had weak ass Italy on there side that was it.
