Ethiopian Airlines called the police on Aisha and her husband, forced them to delete their videos, took away their passports and left them stranded for 24 hours at Addis Ababa’s Bole Airport.

Boycott Ethiopian airlines, they suck! Once they tried to remove my pregnant wife from the plane (pregnancy was less than 20 months, which is allowed). They said her stomach was big and looked over 20 months. I then asked them if they were the ones who made her pregnant and with lots of shouting/quarrels they allowed us. I let them know that as long as I paid for the tickets and informed them about the pregnancy during purchase, the plane can't go without us. They're no good. Boycott Ethiopian airlines.

I feel very bad about this passenger. The situation could have been handled in a very better way.
However, offloading is not abnormal in aviation industry. The reason could be overbooking, last minute VIP passengers, aircraft downgrading, etc.
And there is a procedure to follow when offloading passengers. For example, last booked passengers could be offloaded first. And there is a policy how to take care of offloaded passengers. Those rules should be followed regardless of the passenger's race, gender, etc.
Am sure Ethiopian Airlines has well crafted & detalied procedure to handle various customer service issues. Some employees may not implement them & they should be accountable.
Having said that, putting the situation to a wholly different version & out of proportion is unacceptable. Some are saying this was done because the passenger was a Muslim, Somali…That's ridiculous. These people must be Ethiopian haters & have been waiting for every random situation to throw their hatred.
If this happened in Egypt Air, they would take it as something normal.
Again, very sorry to the passenger mishandled.

As an American, I find it quite interesting that this airline is being called out as racist. Black Americans seem to think the U.S. is the ONLY place that deals with racism. Are there other options to fly? Let your money send the message.

I'm Kenyan-American. l don't fly Ethiopian Airlines because of the way they treat black individuals. Believe me, if it was a white person, they wouldn't have done that. I would encourage that lovely lady to find a good attorney to file a case for her. African politicians and government officials need to understand the international laws protect every traveler.

There are a number of things wrong with this video. Most importantly, if she was told at the gate that she was on standby, she was obviously subsequently accepted for the flight as she managed to board the aircraft. This does not fit with the claim that she was denied boarding due to overbooking.
She may well have pre-booked specific seats but a specific seat is NOT guaranteed and all airlines will reserve the right to change a passengers seat allocation.
There is not necessarily any connection whatsoever between the presence of a Minister aboard the aircraft and what occurred here.
