As long as we don’t send troops unless we absolutely need to, I really don’t have many problems with America’s involvement in Ukraine. We all know it’s a proxy war, but Ukrainians have shown a clear preference to lean western, and Russia just refuses to accept that. Since they’re a fairly poor country, I don’t see much reason why better equipped Western powers can’t lend them a hand. It’s protecting our interests, but in many ways it’s also protecting theirs.

I understand and even agree with to some extent with the “Putin the boy who cried nuclear wolf” thing, but I don’t think that’ll hold up if Russia’s collapse seems eminent. Russia has kinda always been on shaky grounds as far as its governments legitimacy goes. To this point I’d argue the reason they’ve never responded is cause they also realise that nukes are a last resort method that’ll destroy themselves if used. So unless they are under threat of being ousted from power and the threat becomes existential, they won’t risk using nukes. So it concerns me that allied powers might get too confident that nukes are a bluff to the point they consider making a strike that makes the Russian government fear for its very existence, either by military power or social unrest within the country to the point coups become more of a threat. This is the real problem with giving mad men nukes, they pretty much guarantee their survival unless you can find a way to stop them from launching those nukes.
