King James was the king of England who commissioned (paid for) the King James Translation of the bible. Despite the almost worship of this version by some fundamentalist groups, it was not the first English version. Tyndall’s bible was written about 80 years earlier. One of his translations of the New Testament (he made two because he was running away from the Catholics and lost copies of the first). The Catholic Church eventually caught up to him and burned him at the stake because they had prohibited translating the scripture so ordinary people could read it. As to king James, he was a pedophile and a murderer, so not exactly a model Christian. As nominal head of the Church of England he just wanted a version of England’s own
Furthermore, his version is full of additions, subtractions, mistranslations, and made-up passages. Remember, King James wanted it to discredit Puritans, and reinforce his notion of “The Divine Right of Kings”. So to accomplish this, he assembled 47 Christian scholars (not a Jewish scholar amongst them, to translate the HEBREW SCRIPTURES), but never mind. He told them what he wanted in there, and they complied. So in short, king James changed a religious book into a political propaganda tool…For those of you that cling on to the Bible and particularly read King James' Version, are you aware of everything stated above? In fact it goes a lot deeper than that.

You did not post my first comment, but Again, if you don’t read the scriptures for yourself, you fall prey to these charlatans. The Scriptures speak on theses very things, thereby you are equipped to discern the wickedness, expose it and move on. All churches do not have this wickedness going.

There are very many tricksters, frauds, charlatans operating in many churches everywhere. Wicked deeds and foolery doing all kinds of things to people in the name of god. The Scriptures speak on this very thing, but if you do not read yo do not know. I read the Scriptures, and I enjoy the fellowship of the Lord my GOD. You read, you Learn and discern, expose the wickedness, the wicked and you go elsewhere. Currently, I go to a great church and it is a blessing. None of the corruption you speak about is going on there.

In 1582, the Catholic Church translated into English the Douay Rheims version of the Bible from the Latin. In the 1960s, I studied Scripture from this version while at High School in Jamaica. I still have a copy of the Douay Rheims among other newer Catholic translations.

We need more Nigerians like you Franklin. This is why Nigeria will never prosper. The Europeans that brought Christianity to us don’t take it the way we take it in Africa. I understand exactly what you mean @Phrankleen. The hypocrisy and greed of churches is why I don't go to church anymore. When I first arrived overseas, as an international student, I naturally gravitated to a Pentecostal church because my countrymen were the majority there. I had some financial difficulties paying some of my bills and the pastor asked me if I paid tithes. I said no because I didn't have the financial capacity to do. I was new and alone in the country and unlike some international and local students I didn't live rent and expense free with relatives. My job was on a casual basis therefore hours were not guaranteed. Student visa only allows you to work a maximum of 20 hours per week, and my employer does not believe in violating visa rules. I poured my heart out to the pastor who told me that the reason these bad things were happening to me was because I didn't pay tithe. He shamed me into paying tithe and recommended fasting to resolve my problems. This was despite me pointing out that finances were limited as my workplace was going through low season. I felt fooled and disgusted with myself as that money could have been used to pay for the mechanic to fix my 23 year old car. The church started demanding more contributions from me, cooking food for church members parties, weddings etc. One day I stopped going there altogether, and I felt liberated. This was 3 years ago. I still believe in God, but not religious institutions/churches. Sadly these megachurches have amassed a large following that these pastors are regarded as Demi gods. I once worked at a hotel were a prominent pastor hosted a birthday breakfast for his wife and brought her a range rover as a gift. The guests were mostly people from low income areas, who showed up to eat foods that they have not seen in their lives and to receive "blessings" from him. My work colleagues were astounded at how gullible some of these people were. I wonder how much they were forced to pay to attend.
