Our politicians were never supposed to be full-time employees of the United States. The whole idea that we need to let politicians day trade with insider info as a means of attracting the "best" is precisely the problem. What do these people do that they deserve more than 175,000 dollars a year? The country is falling apart and they get amazing connections and jobs afterwards etc. They should be talented private sector employees that work temporarily for the people who elect them and go back to work. That way they have a stake in whether things work out or not. Instead they get paid regardless of the crap show they incite. Also there is zero evidence the most talented people end up in government. It's precisely the opposite especially in the 21st century. They are incredibly unimpressive and mediocrities. If we need to let them partake in corrupt insider trading deals, etc to attract them to politics then you are only going to get people that are attracted to those very things. No thanks. Look at how poorly this went. The professional politician was never meant to be according to our founders.
We are not trying to attract the best talent into government. That would be a waste of talented people. We only need people with just basic common sense.
Id be for the neo cons if they would abandon Ukraine for a war with the Mexican drug cartels. Like their goals make no sense. Create a western hemisphere NATO/ silk road and stay out of Eurasia why are we investing tons of $ on the other side of the planet while our own back yard is a narco state… Like there's plenty of opportunities in South America can we stop playing world police to our own detriment?
