Went to Libya in 2006. One of the most beautiful countries I have ever seen and I have visited over 50 countries and lived in about half a dozen. Definitely, worth a visit but I am not too sure about security these days, I hope not too much has been destroyed.

I was stationed on the outskirts of Tripoli at the Wheelus Air Force Base in 1965 and 1966.The Air Force Base and it's runways are now the International Airport. We had many Libyans working at the Base and I got to know them and their families well. I very much enjoyed my stay there visiting the city and the impressive Roman ruins of Sabratha and Leptis Magna. I got out of the Air Force in late 1966 and always wanted to go back to visit but the war in 1967 changed the condition of the area and it got worse when Ghadaffi took over from King Idris. Like others stating here, I hope the country can overcome it's political and warlike hardships and once again welcome people from other countries (safely) to see the amazing sites.

I can not believe that what pretends to be a professional video can make such mistakes, it truly is unforgivable. It say that it was "Since 1963 Tripoli has been the capital of the Great Socialist Libyan-Arab People’s Republic."? Are you kidding me??? The coup that brought Gaddafi into leadership happened in 1969.
