Talk is cheap…implementing an assertive curriculum doesn’t start and stop with the education system. There are sociological underpinnings of timidity. Yes, the pedagogical structure we find in Africa doesn’t provoke innovation but being innovative has no direct correlation with being assertive. Some of the greatest minds that ever lived challenged themselves first and foremost before they had to challenge the status quo. A greater number of them were quiet and introverted. Iceland has shown that improving education isn’t just talking. And if the minister thinks it is only Africa that has a problem he should look at trends across the world. The most culturally reserved groups like China and Japan are kicking the ass of the likes of US when it comes to math and technology. It’s a nuanced conversation but as usual, we lump all together to collect fans 🫣
