Sidney Poitier was a pioneer and a great actor. Hollywood often wasn't worthy of him. He often had to navigate his earlier roles between a kind of dignity and still show passion. In a time when Black people were expected merely to just entertain others and never show their true feelings, his acting ability wasn't appreciated and he was often just seen as a ' token ' by Hollywood. It was in the 1960s to 1970s when he got to expand his roles and direct films that he truly was able to show how wide his range was. He was a trailblazer who achieved much in spite of that era. Respect to him.
Remember in The Office UK when Ricky Gervais was trying to score points with a new black employee by telling him his favorite actor was Sidney Poitier, Mrs. Sidney Poitier?
Sad to hear of his death,good actor👏, he came at a time where not many African-Americans were major stars/actors and yet he became one,his roles were dignified and made you see him as "a man". One of my favorite actors of all time. Will be missed.

94 is a great life. He didn't win the Oscar for being black (like some more recent ones) he won because he was the best. Sidney Poitier was an American treasure. Rest in peace, sir.

The "Jackie Robinson" of Hollywood. Technically, he didn't break the color barrier but he was singularly responsible for changing the image of black actors and blazing the path of opportunity that made it possible for them to get major roles. And thanks to his adamant insistence on roles that displayed self respect he destroyed Hollywood's stereotypical image of black Americans and replaced it with a new standard based on equality. He was incredibly handsome and naturally charismatic. He possessed a great intellect and he was a superb screen actor. Thankfully we have the films. And so long as humans watch movies he will remain one of Hollywood's greatest icons.
I bought his autobiography The Measure of a Man. A great example of how to live Great book ITS a very inspiring read RIP.
