  1. Jason โ€“ love the vast majority of your videos and have followed you around the world including Cambodia and Vietnam etc where we used some of your suggestions BUT your video of Plymouth UK was shockingly poor and this one is not much better and certainly does not reflect the essence of Stonetown and all there is to see. This one is a far guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KH49lyWPEis

  2. Can i just correct your staggering lack of awareness of the slave trade . The Arabo / islamic slave trade started long before any british involvement which started in WEST africa in the 1660's .
The Brits actually stamped out the west african slave trade from 1807 and rounded the coast later on to stop the arab slave trade in 1897 in zanzibar.
Up until 1964 many arabs on the island still kept donestic slaves though it was illegal and , even within the last 20 years i have met africans working for afro swahili and arab descended Zanzibaris.
Please so research before making such staggering mistakes in the future!

  3. Whatโ€™s surprising was its incredibly clean unlike the mainstream media portrays Africa. Look at the people decently dressed, kind, friendly, welcoming people โค

  4. Jason thats such unfortunate and yet typical British self-deprecation on your part. You feel somehow a twinge of guilt for revealing that the British put an end to slavery so you need to deprecate by saying we started it as well..we (The British ) ABSOLUTELY DID NOT START THE SLAVE TRADING!

  5. Slavery existed long before the British in the 1600s lets set that straight. Arabs were transporting slaves across the Sahara from the 7th century. North Africans were trading Southern Europeans in the Slave Markets of North Africa since the conquest of Iberia. Prior to that, Ancient Egyptians, Persians, Greeks, Romans, had all practiced slavery in Africa. It was all facilitated by African tribal leaders who sold slaves from rival tribes. Slavery in Africa has been around since the dawn of Man. As for the Transatlantic Slave Trade, that was kick started by Portugese and Spanish Merchants, before the British got involved.

  6. We British started the slave trade ? Ended it yes. The slave market was eerie so sad . Was there in 1967. Not allowed to wander around was escorted all the time orders of V Pres. Karume. Great video hardly has changed apart that 20 Tanzanian shillings was then equal to one British Pound

  7. Europeans enslaved Africans and tortured them, they are employed as a slave in America and Europe for long time. Btw why you didn't go to those mosque? They're mostly Muslims not Christians, are you afraid of muslims?

  8. I was in Dar es Salaam between 2003-2006. Been five times to Zanzibar. It seems to me that Stone Town hasnโ€™t changed that much. Safari njema, Jason.

  9. you might want to try talking to people some time instead of the camera constantly if you are making a travel video as the footage I have seen on several videos you have not interacted with anyone of the people talking to you on the street.

  10. literally 1870s onwards British slavery got going in Melanesia, by the British! the kanakas harvesting cane. 1/3 rd died within a year, however they drank a glass or 2 of rum, hence the legality of their bondage. they all died. not in the education system , I know my family were there as colonisers & slaves. my grandmas grandma

  11. When I was younger, I used to think these old East African towns looked so cool, but now I think they're so disorganized and dilapidated. Like he was showing the view from his balcony and I was thinking, "there is nothing beautiful here."
I guess I can see why some people would find these places appealing, but I see that I prefer organized and well maintained towns.
I've been looking for a good African destination, because it's the only continent I'm missing, and I always end up being drawn back to the Western Cape. I guess Africa is one of those places that isn't for everyone.

  12. Also enjoy your editing. Your videos flow seamlessly to us! We also enjoy when you add the cultural music of the places you visit in your outro! It's the "small" details that give even more respect to peoples & country!

  13. I really appreciate your work. We started watching your channel with the Pakistan videos.. never did we EVER think Pakistan would be on the list. The way you delve into non-touristy areas.. just great. Thank you for the knowledge you bring!
