This Is Zambia's Livingston Town | 10km to Victoria falls

Walking in this historic toxn feels like walking in the colonial
era Africa.
I was surprised David Livingstone is still celebrated here in Zambia.
The city is called after him, and museums built just for him
Let us walk together i. Livingston city

  1. Livingstone did NOT discover the falls. The Tonga who lived in the area more than 1000 years before he came called it Shungu Namutitima. The Kololo who took him to it told him that they called it Mosi O Tunya, mean smoke that thunders. I am tired of you, and I will not listen to you any more.

  2. The plane is a vintage World War 2 fighter plane. What make I am not sure, since a lot of planes from the era looked that way. There is a placard next to the plane saying exactly what it is. Can you go in an read it?

  3. That is indeed a DeHaviland Chipmunk. It was the first trainer aircraft of the Zambia Air Force. A squadron of them were absorbed into Number 107 Squadron, Livingstone after Independence (24 October 1964). They were ex RAF or RRAF (Royal Rhodesian Air Force). I used to love going to Livingstone airport as an 8 year old to watch these planes taking off & landing. The new Zambia Air Force at Livingstone also had Percival Pembrokes, which I recall never flew but trainee engineers would practice on. Most of the early instructors were from the Royal Air force until the Italians took over in the late 1960's and more modern trainee aircraft appeared (SAI Warrior) & helicopters (Italian built Hueys). Then Zambia got it's first jet trainers (Macchis) & Yugoslavian SOKO Yestrebs. My family left Zambia after 7 wonderful years! Good memories!

  4. The first SPAR store opened in the Netherlands in 1932. It was initially launched as DESPAR, an acronym of a slogan created by van Well to describe the organisation. KFC is American, founded by colonel Saunders in the 1950's. Wimpy is definately American and Shoprite was founded in western Cape in 1979

  5. I’m glad that the town is or city is starting to look clean again. Street vending by the previous government had made the town dirty. Also the removal of its provincial status in preference for Choma by the previous government had also impacted it badly in terms of infrastructure development. I just hope that the dangerous open drainages will be closed up in the next few years. Enjoyed your video & happy to subscribe.

  6. We were there in December, met the friendliest people ever and fell in love with the place. 💞

Yes the town feels like a klein dorpie in SA and the history is the same.
