Let sarkodie come advice people on record labels. There are more into it that the public don’t know
You see Kojo Sheldon, am glad you have brought this out and in the process of making people know by your channel your promoting your channel and it’s good deeds but I think it’s time you go a step further. Branding and all is good you know.. but to actually mean something, you do need to give back something worthwhile to your audience. It’s obvious you’ve seen a problem and in seeing a problem I think you should try solve ‘em to actually proof your looking out for this your talents. It’s also obvious you looking out for this your first talents is part of your vision so, instead of just breaking the news and verbally cautioning, why don’t you bring or invite experts concerning this issue and then through interviews, educate these young ones. If you actually do this then I’ll actually believe your not actually like ground up and the rest of this big dawgs who just manipulate cos of ignorance. I hope youlld read this. 😐
For me, no matter how good we are to each other other, the moment you bring a deal that brings percentage, I dey take am serious because u strike percentage I know u mean business not friendship

Kwesi Arthur once said "people I idolize wan hurt me, take me for a fool cause the boy be too funny"
Thanks for bringing up the details Sheldon Studio! But have you realized we’re using by greed, selfishness and hatefulness to destroy our entertainment industry 🇬🇭. Why are we not learning after all other countries are making it big?
w/o Kwesi Arthur there is no Ground Up and there will never be.
Sabi boi discovered lalid, introduced him to sikapa who even copped him a sneaker, now listen carefully in that very year that sabi boi discovered LALID he made sure he would be on several shows to perform mind you LALID didn’t even have a hit track back then but sabi boi pulled the strings to make it all happen and that december was awesome for LALID, long story short LALIDs brothers or whoever they are didn’t want LALID to roll with sabi anymore because they felt that sabi boi was taking advantage of LALID meanwhile he wasn’t !!!!
I feel bad for the boy though cos LALID IS FUCKING TALENTED CHARLE !!! LOVE AND LIGHT TO BOTH SABI AND LALID PEACE ✌️
without kwesi arthur groundup be kaashi, shit, bindi
compleating school is underated in this country…… ignorance is a fuel for swift up and downs … nothing to say here

As a music producer, I do not believe in what the artistes are saying but I cannot also say it is entirely false.
There are record label contract samples are available online, you can read some. I think you can find Def Jam contracts online and you are free to read what they entails. To be honest, since it is not hard to understand what is in a record label deal or contract, lots of artistes do not sign with record labels.
Almighty Michael Jackson fought Sony Music Ltd back in the 90s and early 2000s so Sony will not have control of his work after he had passed and it cost him his reputation. Even Kanye West stood against the Grammys, Def Jam and Roc-A-Fella and went independent.
Owning your masters is everything, if a contract will not favor you, you keep your masters. And I think it is time, people who are creatives, lay down their terms when signing a contract or deal with a label. It must not always be what the label can offer, there has to be a talk at the table and the artiste presents their offer and the label presents their offer as well. And they cut to the chase. That is what is normally supposed to happen. The industry has always been like that. And if I ever have to run a music label, which I will, then my terms and conditions will always apply.
However, a label owning your masters carries along for a number of set years: I am not sure how many. After that, it is up to the label and the artiste to find what else to do with the masters. Only thing is, artiste these days live flashy lives and end up letting the label make more money to fund their habits which they cannot afford and in turn it increases the time their masters (the proprietary of their song or work) stays with the label. If your masters will be with a label for say ten years and you serve, living in your means and you get your masters? You are free to do what you want with it. But our artistes will live large as if the world will end today and then accumulate lots of debt, which they cannot pay off but then relapse to letting their masters do the talking and keeping the royalties with the label in exchange for a few pleasantries.
There is a lot of in-betweens when it comes to music, just putting your work out there is not enough. If you can afford independency, go for it, it is the best. That is what Sarkodie has done with Sarkcess Music and it has helped him till date. Now say, when Sarkcess or any label signs an artiste will they not do their best to keep their business running by increasing what they get from the masters of an artiste signed to them? They will want to stay in business. They will invest in an artiste via studio sessions, song writing, beat production, online marketing, online posting, promotion, etc. and they will have to pay for all of these on behalf of the artiste or refund the artiste's money if they (the artiste) paid it themselves. Hence after all this investment, they will want to not just make their money back, they will want to make, if possible, a double, a triple or whatever percentage on that initial investment. And they will want to make it for as long as they can. This is something every artiste or creative or business person venturing into music should know and understand.
So on the ground up boys, if they failed to know these, then it is not the labels fault. It is entirely their fault.
Whiles Nigerians labels are elevating their artists and helping them reach their full potentials, The labels we have here in GH are busy ripping our artists….hmm its sad😥😥💔💔
Have you seen the contract boss ?
this was the same thing that happened to n.w.a in america. these artist must be very vigilante with these contracts. if possible get a lawyer to look through these contracts.
