In greek they called the Somalis and thier land as Barbario which derived from the ancient Egyptian name for puntites Brbrta. Ancient romans called this country in 3 names , aromata region, country of the cinnamon, the Frankincense and incense. In Ptolemaic and Hellenistic greek period they refer to as cape elephants (elephant moonson) in old Ptolemaic map which they called the land of elephant. Khebsi was another ancient name for the puntites and thier land was refer to as the Divine land during late antiquity of ancient Egypt under Ptolemaic rule. During iron age until classic era the country was ruled by one of the wealthiest and most powerful kingdom in the African continent the macrobian empire which not only ruled Somalia but the entire horn including djabouti except Ethiopia and Eritrea which was under dmt kingdom but including Eastern Ethiopia and stretching southern Somalia and gulf of aden. The name of the Modern Somalis peninsula was at that time called macrobia while the entire of sub Sahara Africa was called aethoipia by the Romans and greeks. Somalis were known by Thier distinguish name macrobia. In late classical era Somali peninsula was divided into two great regional the Barbaria which greek used to call northern Somalia and the somalis in the North including djabouti as Barbars while southern Somalia stretching northeastern province of Kenya and lamu island was called Azania region ( the land of plenty in ancient Arabia) . In Hebrew and Persian they called Somalia as Barbaristan and Barbaria which both derived from barbario the greek term of the ancient brbrta who Were puntites people. One of the most ancient name and well know that was used to refer the country was Punt, the land of punt( the land of the gods and ancestors), Barbario , Azanian along with Macrobia. Somalia truly have one of the greatest history in the horn of Africa and the continent itself behind Sudan and Egypt. The history of this country dates back thousands of years as it was a crossroad for early Human migration into Arabia peninsula, levantine and Indian Ocean. The homo sapiens as we known crossed the gulf of aden through Bab- al mandeb straight located in djabouti and Northwest Somalia in red sea. The somalis peninsula is commonly agreed that it was where modern Humans lived for thousands of years ago such as the gariri (g33) fossil found in the Somali region of Ethiopia and the buur hakaba, buur gabo settlement in southern bay valley of Somalia Which is one of the oldest place of where earliest humans settled and lived hunting dik dik and other Animals in Africa leaving numerous rock shelters and caves. stone tools found in northern Somalia such as hand axes, stone tool discovered by seton-karr in 1878 which are now in Australian Museum British and Chicago were one of the oldest stone tools ever discovered in Africa and the country was the first to have discovered in the continent for searching of early humans live in the continent and old settlements in the continent by the Scottish archaeology Seton karr and many more others in late 18th century.. The region of Horn of Africa commonly known as Somali peninsula host many human fossil, bones, early settlement and rare rock art in the world such as the laas geel rock art in Northern Somalia and the lucky fossil Found in Ethiopia which is one of the oldest ever found fossil in the world.

Not to mention the ideology that Africa is where humans lived and came from was inspired by the stone tools found in northern Somalia and it became a popular archaeology term to address Africa as the cradle of mankind after the stone tools, settlement and rock art which Seton karr discovered. In late 18 and 19 century Somalia was declared as the garden of eden by archeology and scholar the country was ruining in the newspaper at that time such as new York journal which published the biblical garden of eden to have been found in Somalia (horn of Africa) it was accepted by most of the archeology at that time but later during the scramble of Africa it became declining because of the archeology rise in other part of Africa such as Kenya, South Africa and lake Victoria in eastern Africa.

  2. Me and my family descend from the dervish. My grandfather and uncles were also among the 5000 that were trained under the Soviet Union. My grandfather was the commander of the engineering unit.

  3. In 1970s Somalia was a superppwer in Africa. They trainned and helped many African countries with their struggle for freedom.
But the super powers were afraid and crushed down Somalia to exploit Africa.
    Somalia is coming back.

  4. Somalia now a broken glass never never be back to old somali history this generations existing now r not somalis but they r tribal minded people even there islamic believe is 87% they r money warships and they r 89% non educated in islam nor else Allah help the country of no mans land somalia

  5. My name is Sharmaarke Mohamed Ali from Somaliland . I have to tell you that you people do not be surprised by the fact that Somalis identify themselves as Arabs because Somalis are made up of different tribes that share the same language, culture, religion and environment. Some Somali tribes have been around for a long time and they are the ancient Somalis, and some tribes have become Somalis in different periods. Some are left over from the Portuguese invasion in the 15th century. Some tribes are of Israeli descent, while others are of Indian origin. As you know, in the past, the Somali region has been known by different names to the West and the Arabs, such as during the time of Prophet Moses, it was part of the land called Egypt. The pharaoh himself was a Somali because besides the image of the pharaohs and many traditions that are similar to the Somalis, there is the fact that the pharaoh's name is in the Somali language and that is what the pharaoh actually was. There are also ethnic groups living next to Somalis that have been heavily influenced by Somalis and later became Somalis.Ancient Somalis , most of them were traveled towards the south and west direction and arabs took the place of those scattered ancient somalis. Finally, do not be surprised that the majority of Somalis are of Arab origin.Majory of Somalis belong a line of of descent traced continuously from an ancestor and they protect and preserve family origins and history. On the other hand, there is no single country whose entire population descended from the origin of a single father, if i'm not sure its not more than one or two countries.

  6. I’m american just down a history/geography recommended video rabbit hole. It’s very nice to see so many people in this comment section bonding over a shared culture and history and I’m glad to have learnt more about a country that has such a poor reputation surrounding it in the US. Have a lovely day y’all ❤

  7. The Royal Siddis of South Asia, have East African heritage.
The #Bahmani_Sultanate had a whole host of aristocratic classes, including Governors, Admirals & Sufis.

The #Janjira_Siddis were a formidable naval power off the Western coast of South Asia.

In Gujarat state, we see architectural delights such as Ahmedabad's #Sidi_Saiyyid_ki_Jali (in the tongue of Persianate Urdu aristocracy) & Bava Gor Sufis of Ratanpur (Bharuch district).

There were many Siddis, sometimes known as "Habshis," who were often adventurers & in the gentrified classes under the #Mughal_Emperors & earlier.
