  1. Wait until they come for you. Thats the problem with African Americans. You take too much for granted. Im not wishing you bad but ive seen so much in that place that despite having relatives there, i simply let it pass.

  2. I spent a year living in SA in 2011, based in Pretoria. Had leard plenty of scary stories – and yes, some bad things had happened to my friends and workmates there. Crime does happen. But a team of us went and we soon realised that with a little caution and discernment, you were fine. Ended up having an amazing time, absolute highlight of my life. Going back in Nov/Dec for the first time since then, can't wait – a little apprehensive, will it be 'better', 'worse' or just a bit different.

  3. Great video! Being from the US, though, isn't it true that you still have to file taxes for the US? This is one thing I personally and strongly dislike about being from the US myself, being from one of the only two countries in the world that practices worldwide taxation. Our tax laws is one thing that personally deters me from moving abroad, because I feel like you need to know what you're doing in order to stay out of trouble. I have a disability, so I often don't know what I'm doing. On a separate note, I've been to South Africa once (Cape Town), for 15 days and I loved it! My travel dream is to visit every major city in Australia, South Africa, and the UK sometime during my life. Traveling is my most favorite hobby in the world and I've been to all 50 US states and 42 countries so far on a fairly low budget and without the ability to drive a car.

  4. As I've previously mentioned that as a Melinated American I've lived and worked the broadcast industry in South Africa jhb 27 years and what I've experienced is that when you have a certain skill set which is needed you can maneuver yourself into amazing opportunities in South Africa 🌍

As long as you associate yourself with the right people and keep your head on a Swivel by staying out of harm's way you and your children will be safe.

    Continued growth and blessings 🙏

  5. Dont feel Afraid to walk around . Even south Africans will put fear in you. But just be cautious and note that for the most part people are around to always help you . But you can also be here for a complete stay and not ever see crime. Just enjoy it and dont be too flashy out there.

  6. Hi, watching from Alberton, it's a few kilometres from Joburg. Yes we need you to come to South Africa, your Dollars and Ponds will help with the Economy. A wiseman once said " Believe nothing you hear and only Half of what you see". Please come and eat Braai meat with us…..

  7. No no Cape Town holds the no.1 spot in Afrika when it comes to danger & crime as gorgeous as it is. Like any other place in the world, you need to know the no GO area😊

  8. I guess maybe it’s not as dangerous as you thought, or as what was told to you. But you gotta be careful, for the first 25 years of my life I had never encountered any crime I would just hear about it. I have to admit a lot has changed since covid. A lot of people realised just how much they can get away with and things have just gotten worse. With that being said I also believe in God’s Grace.

  9. Woman are you making fun of those who have been killed and hijacked so far at the hands of criminals? Why did you move to Cape Town? May be because it is safer there than Gauteng? Do not be ridiculous. Hope nobody believes you.

  10. Someone i know went to South Africa in the early 2000s and wanted to buy a vacation home…when she went to the bank to transfer money, she got robbed. Despite that she didn't give up looking for her vacation home. So a week passed and she was being taken to go see a house she got carjacked 😩. She said that was a sign to not invest there. Years later she went on a group tour and one of her friends got robbed right in front of them lol. She said that left her traumatized.

  11. Truth be told, Johannesburg isn't the safest especially at night….so it's best it be avoided at all costs. And with the tidbit economic growth, stupid policies, rising poverty, endless influx of these immigrants….the picture doesn't look rosy going forward unfortunately

  12. Ms Ashley once more.. thank you.. Your comparative is spot on.. Living and working in London.. I can tell you there're countless murders here too.. almost on a weekly basis.. Love your content your world view.. you touch to torch my heart❤

  13. South African violence is different to American violence for sure – more likely to get hit with a machete than a bullet. I'm from Cape Town – I have left South Africa, and I've been living in South East Asia for the past few years – but I miss my home, I won't go back because of the crime lol. But to be fair, Cape Town statiscally has more crime than Joburg, but Cape Town doesn't feel as dangerous in Joburg. Also, you probably don't experience the crime – because as you said- the wealthy people who can afford safety don't really have to worry. It's those outside of the wealthy circle.

  14. What does being the richest square mile has to due crime when it’s Sub Saharan Africa, Facts are Fact’s, making up excuses and trying to compare Joburg or cape with other places around the world doesn’t change Fact that these 2 cities are very dangerous and has High Crime as does the Country of South Africa, Make Sense!

  15. Wonderful Ashley. The western media has been portraying their countries as perfect and degrade every developing country through propaganda etc. The most fear that Western countries have now especially America is that they are starting to lose their war on propaganda and false narrative regarding others and their own. Thanks for spreading the truth about South Africa. Many who go abroad always come back and say, 'There's no country like South Africa. They miss the vibe and culture. Crime is everywhere in all the countries.

  16. A lot of comments exaggerating and making south africa look like a hellhole are boere bots( racist white people living in south africa along with their undocumented immigrants). They are everywhere, on social media they create fake accounts, fake news sites to sabotage the potential investors confidence, they just are racist bots who thinks everything belongs to the white man

  17. In the future, I intend to reside in Kenya. I am currently studying Swahili, as it significantly aids in building relationships with the local community. This approach fosters connections with individuals, thereby reducing the likelihood of conflict.

Numerous individuals visit African nations and other regions to exploit local populations, engaging in activities such as sex tourism and other forms of labor exploitation for profit. This commodification of people often leads to local communities responding with resistance. The issue lies not within the criminality of the country itself, but rather in the behavior of these individuals. Such actions should not be generalized as indicative of the region's overall danger.

  18. Statistically, South America is recognized as the most perilous continent concerning crime, particularly due to the involvement of various countries with drug cartels and organized criminal syndicates.

Certain regions in South Africa are indeed hazardous, largely influenced by the lifestyle choices of individuals. Frequenting bars and clubs associated with drug use significantly increases the likelihood of encountering criminal activities while traveling.

In the United States, cities such as Gary, Indiana, and New Orleans are known for their dangers, with firsthand accounts of violent incidents, including shootings. Nevertheless, even within these urban areas, there exist neighborhoods where safety can be found.

Generally, impoverished communities tend to experience higher levels of crime, even in smaller towns. While these may primarily involve drug-related offenses, such as methamphetamine distribution or minor criminal activities, they are nonetheless prevalent.

Poverty is a significant contributor to criminal behavior, as the pursuit of financial gain often drives individuals to commit crimes, alongside factors such as emotional distress and ego.

  19. Hi Ashley. I wish I was an African American, and then I should have located to the richest Square mile in SA long ago in order to enjoy what you are talking about in this video.

I always follow you, though I am a black South African but wanna hear how our diaspora feel living in our wonderful sunny South Africa. You nailed it girl. Keep it up young woman.

  20. Some of these comments border on ridiculous to just plain stupid! They make light of the fact that Ashley is in a 'safe gated community.' AND!! She's supposed to be! She's a single mom! Why would anyone with the brains God gave a Goat, leave America to do worse! There are gated communities in every single major city and towns all up and through America! They're not there because they're cute! They're there because America is filled with crazy, murderous wack jobs! They love their gates like a fat kid loves cake! And you can bet your bottom dollar that when I move to Joburg, I'll be smack dab in the middle of Steyn City, smoking a cigar, sipping a cognac and chillin with my beautiful African brothers and sisters! Bet that! Peace!

  21. Welcome back MaAsh-Ash 🤗

Crime will go away just like load-shedding, because South Africans are:

    1. Not in denial about the country's problems, and
    2. Are intentional about making them go away.

The gentleman from TRSA, worked in the secret service, and I think he should approach the government with advice, or any kind of assistance in dealing with security in SA.

Black Americans have a genuine love for SA, and it's your unshakable love for SA is what makes you able to see the negative feedback about SA in perspective.

I'm sure you feel how much South Africans love you, and we hope you all interested BAs have a great homecoming in SA.
