The rich, the poor and the trash | DW Documentary (Inequality documentary)

Inequality is growing. The rich consume much more than the poor and produce much more waste. Trash has become a symbol of our times.

But what some people throw away, means money to others and a chance to survive. The amount of waste we generate and the way we deal with it speak volumes about our consumption and prosperity – and also about our…

  1. "i cant help the poor if i'm one of them" -JayZ

theres so much more to life than rich vs poor. in fact, the rich are the highest contributors to impoverished populations than any.. personally if i have a nice shirt and it develops a small hole for example, i'll give it to the Salvation Army or somewhere like that.

the rich are also the most empathetic in many cases; the poor man said it himself. poor ppl like that think that the rich hate them but that's not true. ppl have respective clans and if you dont belong to that clan it doesnt matter your status. you cant get in. there are poor neighborhoods that would rob, stab, and kill anyone who's not from that hood so who's really attacking who?

education is everywhere today; it's in everyone's pocket. unless you have a mental disorder or physical deformity, i question if your issue is real or self-inflicted. you cant be mad at someone who has more acorns than you because their system of capturing acorns is better than yours. that's ridiculous. that thought pattern is destructive.

  2. this inequality conversation is interesting. there's always this focus on the rich but never any focus on the poor ppl next door..

the rich are a shadow on the wall for these ppl. the poor is right next to them. they can touch the poor. coincidentally, it's the poor that victimize other poor and in this regard i'm talking about economics.

poverty isnt just money, it's spirit. there are rich ppl with poor spirits and there are poor ppl with rich spirits; the latter seem to bring themselves out of poverty.

i'm sick and tired of ppl talking about the rich who are supposed to be helping you out when you dont even have access to these ppl. then there's the poor ppl next door who are actually vicitimizing other poor ppl and you NEVER EVER hear the poor complaining about them.. so your poor mom and poor dad abused you growing up and your neighbor violated you when you were younger and youre wondering why rich ppl arent there to save you? but you're closer to poor ppl..ppl who we assume that you have a real relationship with cause they're next door..

poor ppl victimize poor ppl but even poor ppl dont wanna be around other poor ppl so what makes you think that rich ppl should want to be around poor ppl?

  3. It is tough documentary you can see different paths and lifestyle of people which some of them bring tears to my eyes the old man with baseball cap is full of wisdom this documentary makes me think about our future and the gap that we are creating is scary.

  4. All we need is 48,700.00 USA per year and it will feed everyone from Kenya and Sadan and some of other African countries per year! Trust us, care! May God guide you and help you set up coalition gatherings to distribute to the slums in Jesus care!

  5. I’ve said the same thing that man was talking about. If even 50% of the population said we aren’t going to work until wages go up, healthcare costs reduce, food and gas prices go down, etc etc etc this country would be fixed in a matter of weeks.

Think slavery is over? Think again. We are in modern day slavery and it’s not about skin color. It’s about the color green, money, greed, and corruption.

  6. Why don't the rich help the poor? Well, maybe it's because everyone should be responsible for himself or herself. Rich people have no obligation to the poor. Maybe if the poor would be more industrious, they won't be poor in the first place. Being poor does not entitle you to dole-outs from other people!

  7. Help me I have to write an article on the basis of this video about 150 words. I don't know how to write please help me I have to submit it and explain it in my school 😢😢😢

  8. There is no problem with inequality, no society can be "equal." Historically, wealth distribution has failed (Soviet Union). The matter is to have more opportunity and involve people in the economy. Taking money away from the rich will not solve the problem.

  9. Very, very, very HARD to watch. Especially to people who let good groceries rot weekly in favor of eating out. I’m not the only one in Georgia, USA. Sometimes you just want to be fancy and drop $300-$400 at the Capital Grille for their nice pastries, scrumptious food and top notch hospitality. The ambiance and service is what forces someone to waste food. You promise you’ll only do it once and next thing you know your fridge food gets tossed out and you go get more groceries from the high priced niche markets. I have deep freezers populated with lobsters, king crabs, imported Kobe beef, steaks, frozen foods (junk comfort food like hot wings) and such that eventually I’ll have to have someone to sort it out. It’s like George Carlin’s comedy sketch about stuff that I definitely recommend. It’s sad to know of the inequality. It’s something I know I need to workout especially since I really make nice Coquille Saint Jacques among other specialties. I need to grow up.

  10. Many times when people try to help others, the government steps in and stops it. Telling churches they cannot give away free food because they do not have proof of meeting food safety standards, giving people fines who hand out food on the streets, etc. The government THRIVES on inequality. People care about each other. It is the governments who use propaganda do drive a wedge between religions, countries, races and classes, or penalize those who can look past the propaganda and lift a hand to help.

  11. Things will never change until the American people kick out the two allowed political parties on the payroll of the Pentagon , which has unconditional unlimited access to the people's treasury . Which in effect makes the U.S. a one party state.
It might sound strange , but in some way Trump was part of a revolution , that's why the establishment managed to kick him out . At least under his watch there were no wars .

  12. the world is disgusting! and the people on top are to blame! you were designed to be living the way you are living werever you are! its not your fault! you have done no wrong… society created you and keeps you in place!

  13. The Kenya government estimates as of 2019 approximately 85.5 percent of the total population is Christian and 11 percent Muslim. In my research the countries that have 85% Catholics population around the world had the same problems compared to non-catholic or protestant countries.

  14. This old man who collects trash cans is wise, and has insight. He has something which is more valuable than golds and jewellery, and that is wisdom. That's what true wealth is all about. And i love the fact that that he has a way with his words. May God richly bless him.

  15. I am 28 years old and I work in waste management.
My day is always very busy, i don't even have time to rest. I start working at the dump site at five o'clock in the morning, sometimes i wish i could give myself a day off but it's not possible.
This is kenya's biggest trash dump it's just a few kilometers away from nairobi's commercial district
Every day hundreds of trucks arrive with garbage from the city's affluent district and its hotels and restaurants. And they're waiting for me to come back with milk or bread inbthe evening they'll complain if i come home. I colled food and put it asude to feed my pigs they have to eat too. Sometimes i night be lucky and find some packed meat and chips here and that would be lunch for today just like that. Someone migh think this is not a good job if they see me looking distry i am now they night look down on me but i know what I'm getting out of it. Every day hundreds of people from the nearby slums come here in the hope of scavenging food or anything else that might come handy one of them is my mom working here and this is where the have high income and because she didn't have a lot of money and we are many in our family so she was coming here and work when you have a daily bread. So i learned this is the place i can find money but i have my own dreams this is not where i want to be in my future coming yeah. Iniquity first was seen as something that was necessary for growth to happen it was something that was necessary for necessary for productivity without inequality there Will be no productivity then we started to realize that okay too realize that okay too much inequality may be a moral problem it's 5 a.m in Brooklyn new York Pierre Simmons is on bisa way to work people look at you and they think wat they're going to think oh look at that person they're picking up that garbage and things like that you can't let that stop you.
If you have rent to pay and you worry about that your rent doesn't get paid.

I took a walk outside one day went around the corner and I Saw the recycle bagus full of bottles and cans and I said you know something i seen all that money that's what it that's what it translated to me money.

  16. unless its institutionalised or systemic, poor people should work hard, gain relevant skills and stop blaming the rich for their woes. Nobody owes you shit, wealth/money is earned not given

  17. The answer to the first question. My grandad worked his asss off so that our family company can reach the e billionaire status as a private company which is nearly impossible only 1 in 14 billionaire company is private. But don’t get the wrong idea, I’ve never looked down on someone’s job or profession my grandad used to work on a cornfield.

  18. This is an amazing documentary so far illustrating the inequality existing among the people, those well to do and the poor, being a bitter pill. DW documentary has exposed what has been in a shade
