Point of correction he didn't crash in the Limpopo mountain but crashed into a hillside at Mbuzini in Mpumalanga. Limpopo and Mpumalanga are two different Provinces

The UK newspaper "The Times" carried an article in a gloating tone soon after the crash, about the South African authorities' use of a bogus radio beacon to mislead the aircraft's pilots. The use of bogus beacons (that would pick up the signals from German navigation beacons and re-transmit them from a different place) was a technique that was developed and used by the UK authorities to mislead the pilots of German bombers in the early 1940s, so that their bombs would miss the intended targets and with luck the aircraft would get lost and fail to get back to their home bases.
