A little other piece of History concerning Sammy Davis Jr. The rat pack which had Joey Bishop Frank Sinatra Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin at the time were contracted to one of the big casinos in Las Vegas to do their act. Well when Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Sammy Davis showed up they're walking through the front doors. the floor manager walks up to him and stops Sammy and tells him that he's not allowed to walk through the front door he's going to have to go around to the back to the service entrance. Dean Martin sees what's going on and stops and argues with the floor manager but to no avail. so he calls to Frank who had continued walking ignoring what was going on and asked him hey Frank aren't you going to do something here? Frank Sinatra just continued walking on to his luxury suites. So Dean said this isn't going to happen and tells the manager he will boycott the casino if Sammy is not allowed to walk through the front door. Now Sammy was willing to go in through the back because he didn't want to cause any trouble but Dean would not hear it and said he absolutely would not perform unless Sammy be allowed to walk through the front door just like any other person. Frank said nothing, and did not come to Sammy's defense, also he did not backup Dean. but in the end Dean Martin won and Sammy Davis Jr was allowed to walk in through the front door. I admired Dean Martin so much for him willing to do that for his friend. I actually heard that story from an interview that Sammy gave. He also told another story about when he lost his eye. That story also did not paint Frank Sinatra in a very good light either. Unfortunately another story concerning Peter Lawford, he at the time was a part of the rat pack and was kicked out of the rat pack by Sinatra. At the time Peter Lawford was married to JFK's sister. he was asked by Sinatra to use his influence to get favors from the president and Lawford refused. Lawford didn't believe that it was appropriate. Sinatra had him black balled. To be fair I think Frank Sinatra may have had some good in him I just have never heard any stories that he did.
