  1. You know they only get their flowers when they are gone unfortunately.

Nobody cared about reason until he started doing amapiano.
Blacklez was cool but to a niche audience but nobody cared about his bars.
Kid Tini was cool and had a bit of buz around his name but nobody cared about his bars.
It's the same thing with Priddy Ugly.

These dudes were pretty cool for the bars they delivered but people didn't care like that for his bars bro.

The reason someone like Aka made it is because he was the first person in Mzansi to actually the quality of hip hop he was making at the time.

One thing that made Casper's Nyovest cool when he came out are the Anthems like Gusheshe, Doc shebeleza, Phumakin, Tshibidi. Trap music that was tailormade for mzansi.

KO made it because of how lyrical he was when he came out, plus the image, plus the kasi swagger he had. KO sounded like a Kasi broer that just so happened to be a great rapper. Like his bars were full of quotable lines you could hear in a kasi conversation.

Nasty C made it because he was the first rapper at his age to really have the kind of flows; bars and image of being the coolest kid in africa. That attracted a lot of people in high school, varsity and people in their early 20s to his music.

A-reece made it because of the his bars, the catchy choruses, his rivalry with nasty c another rapper who was his peer; the ambitious ent saga which gave him that underdog vs big corporation that is trying to ruin him which got a lot of people to root for him. It wasn't because of how lyrical he was. Here me out on that one, when you listen to Paradise you can tell he really dumbed down his music to have it go commercial. The album many people demanded for years was the second installment of that album because of how many hit songs it had not how lyrical he was.

Witness The Funk was a group that when they came out with Nomusa they weren't the most lyrical but they had the best hooks, and had that I'm in college and living like a bachelors vibe to them. That's why a lot of youth really liked them but they ended up forget why people liked them and ended up making songs like "Ngwenya Town, Volovolo" and it was pretty much over for them after that.

Pretty Ugly had the Lyrical ability, the highest level of production when it came to music and music videos but one thing that prevented him from really succeeding was the market he was really catering to. Like what does a Priddy Ugly fan look like number 1? What age range are they? Where do they live, do they live ko di pluseng/kasi/suburbs? The last thing which you mentioned is his lyricism. There is no doubt pretty ugly should be on the mountrushmore of lyrical rappers in RSA but for people who casually listen to rap music, they might now feel like they want to sit there and try to decipher your every bars and instead want to just hear something catchy with quotables. Priddy will only get his flowers when he is gone which is the saddest thing ever.

I was about to also explain Okmalumkoolkat's reign at the top coming to an unfortunate end but this comment would be too long so let me just end it here

  2. It didn’t accumulate 2M from the songs that were released when the album was released, the 2 million counts the whole album plus the singles he released last year, let’s not cap…but it’s good numbers, that I won’t lie
