The Incredible TRUE Story of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
Operation Postmaster was an audacious and complex mission involving layers of secrecy, blackmail and espionage on a level never before seen in 20th century warfare. Whilst the rewards for a successful mission were great, the consequences if it failed could have proven catastrophic…
In this video, we speak with Damien Lewis, author of The…

The SOE (Special Operations Executive) is well worth a deep dive. Their missions and agents were one of a kind and unbelievable.
Winston Churchill understood that Hitler & his European cronies were liars, so he needed to play the game of war differently when dealing with them & and thankfully, he did ๐ ๐
What a mission.. Audacious and such brave operatives …..Awesome upload ๐๐ฌ๐ง๐ฌ๐ง๐ฌ๐ง๐ฌ๐ง๐ฌ๐ง๐ฌ๐ง
Why does he say "pro-ven"??
sad that they all died in subsequent operations. and captain graham haye was tortured for a year before execution.
I've spent 60 years frustrated as hell as I can find nothing about my Father who was in SOE F Section, and later MI6…Most people know what their father did for a job..sadly, not me
I see a ton of folk wanting to see a movie, a DOCU-DRAMA…based solely on factual events…about a mission with a High-likelyhood of FAILURE. A movie about an operation that lasted 30 minutes, was flawless…without a shot fired.
One with no character development (because they're not around to tell us about themselves), where they are highly capable, heroic, but faceless…
You just saw one…
I rather see an exciting and enjoyable movie…that made me want to research the truth…through reading, and if possible, watching a documentary, too…
the movie, while based on "true events", was a mishmash of older ones= a) the main character is a dead ringer for Rufus Excalibur ffolkes (a.k.a Roger Moore) . b) the sailboat/ Kriegsmarine patrol boat, the whole thing is copied from "the Guns of Navarone" right down to the language "confusion". c) after that, it's "Inglorious Basterds" all the way
Germany had already any rules of war in the first and second world wars- including everything the British just realized they were allowed to do. Germany cared nothing for neutrality.
Spain would have had their cositas pounded if they tried to go to war against the allies. ๐
I really liked the movie, however I didnโt go into expecting a documentary as Iโve seen a lot of comments about how they didnโt stick to history. This was an action movie very loosely based on a true story. But if you take it as more of a Guns of Navarone or Where Eagles Dare type movie, itโs much more enjoyable imo.
The most astonishing fact about Postmaster was that not a single shot was fired.
Not exaaaactly what we see in the movie.
I would love to an actual movie about Postmaster.
Everything was done
Buster Crabbe and others like Percy Hobart
Also the SBS SOE the Chindits SAS were all founded because of Churchill and others who believed in this
I enjoyed the movie ๐ฟ โค, so much I now know the actual history win win
Why stretching the facts of an extraordinary story. Iโll buy the book.
Just watched the movie and boy oh boy… This is incredible. WW2 was out of this world.
I enjoyed the film. I dont understand people who compare the film they watch to the book or actual historic happenings and moan thatit different.
The storyteller tells his story how he wants, someone like Ritchie has to make a film that he hopes will make money so uses poetic licence.
It's not a documentary.
First time I've come across Operation Postmaster, and what a story!
To those denigrating the Guy Ritchie movie (which I haven't seen), I'd say that whilst stuff like this may be more fiction than fact, if it's made known that it was based on actual events, then that may well spark an individual interest in history which might otherwise remain dormant.
Just a thought.
I'm confused – why would Spain get upset by the UK sinking the ships in their waters when the Germans were re-supplying U-boats in the same place? Surely both are as bad as each other?
So weird, the attitude at the time – no secret raids, everything done 'fairly'…

In 39 the British government secretly purchased a farm.
Honestly cannot recommend Damien Lewis especially books enough
Thank for putting the film into real historical context. Is there any information about the actual role of these 3 vessels and whether the cargo ship was carrying supplies for U-boats and acting as a radio link for information on Allied shipping? Thank you
I'm imagining the Italian and German officers (in British voices): "Cracking party this, I'm loving the free booze and birds." Suddenly: "Oi, who turned the lights out?" Ten minutes later: "Hang on, someone's nicked our f***ing boats!!!"
disappointed with the silly aspects in the film which were unnecessary imo as the true story is sensational
Of course they wanted "gentlemenly warfare"! Rich folks didnt really get affected negatively by that type of war!
Operation Chariot has never had a film made, I really never understood why. I think there was a half baked Hollywood thing with a similar theme but nothing true to life. It really needs it's story telling properly.
Wow, great sis. Indonesia is listening
