I hope the weather in Kisumu isn’t as hot as those on the shores of the Atlantic and I hope that when you go to church today, you pray very hard for Kenya such that God may protect Kenya from the Chebukati buffoonery at ~Anniversary Towers. Chebukati and Gulliye are making fatal mistakes which will make a rather peaceful election be annulled by ignoring simple constitutional stipulations as having the Manual register at all polling stations. And the worst lie Gulliye is telling Kenyans is that Azimio is asking the IEBC to use then manual register when all then Raila led coalition is asking is the availability of the register which even Havi of all t6he people agrees is the law. All these because Chebukati wants to exact revenge on Raila Odinga for the 2017 annulled general elections.
Now about Martha Karua being picked as Raila Odinga's running mate;
Let's talk about that.
As you have stated in your very critical analysis, let's go back in history so that we can talk about today.
When Raila Odinga was arrested for the failed coup of 1982, not lawyer wanted anything to do with Raila's case. if you recall James Orengo and others were also arrested. The only lawyer who had the cajones hard enough to stick her neck out was none other than a 24yr old lawyer from somewhere in Kirinyaga called Martha Karua. Her act of bravery which at that time was considered stupid, earned Martha Karua a life long gratitude from Raila Odinga. History can attest to that so I will leave it there.
But allow me to point out here that the choice of Martha Karua even though was a master's stroke from Azimio to counter and tame Ruto in the Mountain region and as you have said it very well, to fulfil the Handshake agreement and terminate the so-called project by the other side, it wasn't entirely Uhuru Kenyatta's choice. If that is the case, then Raila is still president Uhuru's Project and I can assure that Raila (and I hold no brief form him. Paul Mwangi is doing a wonderful job at that) Odinga may need President Uhuru on his side to deny Ruto the power of incumbency but that’s it!
Now look at the choices the Azimio Coalition faced in picking the running-mate and those who were touted as possibles:
1. Peter Kenneth:- Amiable, polite. good mannered and would have deputized Raila Odinga with dignity. But his stars were dwindled by the Agikuyu. Peter Kenneth and his heritage reminds the Agikuyu of one Charles Njonjo who in 1978 is frowned upon for Handing power to Moi after Kihika (Susan's Father) Kimani and his Change-the-constitution of 1976 had worked so hard to keep the presidency in the mountain. He wasn't going to get nominated. Not in a million years when there is so much at stake for the Agikuyu.
2. Sabina( I love the gal) Chege:- Young and beautiful but not tested and with the corruption in Kenya, who knows what would have happened even a year down the road? If Ruto could plan his own men in the entire mount Kenya region in right under President Uhuru's nose, imagine what would happen with a non experienced green horn such as Sabina Chege. That'd've been like fishing with dynasmite and still expecting a full fish in the pot. Raila may be forgiving, forgetful even but he is not known for naïveté.
3. Peter Munya. I mean seriously, outside the Mountain, who really knows Peter Munya especially considering how he flip-flopped after the 2017-2018 General election! He may be loyal to President Kenyatta but Raila needed more than that at this particular moment.
4. Ali Hassan Joho:- The only Kenyan politician who could have brought the women vote for Raila Odinga even than Martha if you don't consider other factors. Remember this is the guy that stood up to power and taunted President Uhuru to the point the Port services at Mombasa were taken away just to exact revenge on him? And then when Covid stroke, Ali Hassan Joho was the only Governor to have his hospital equipped with Ventilators and ICU beds even more(The Media gave him a 3 month blackout for embarrassing the state) Kenyatta hospital! But he couldn’t be picked. The West arent ready for a MUslim presidency in Kenya. At Least not Yet.
To cut a long story short, Raila Odinga confounded everyone in Azimio by settling for Martha Karua for several reasons top of them, her hard-nosed politics, the women factor, the Kikuyu factor but above all else, fighting corruption. But i can guarandemtee it it that if left to President Uhuru, he would have settled for anyone else (Manipulatable) but Martha Karua. The Truth of The Matter is that the project tag ended the day Ruto rubbished the Mount Kenya(You must have realized that they retreated to the background but like a swan gliding over the pond, they are peddling like crazy to teach Ruto a lesson) Foundation.
Anything else is hearsay
