Take action on climate change at http://countdown.ted.com.
Biodiversity is the key to life on Earth and reviving our damaged planet, says ecologist Thomas Crowther. Sharing the inside story of his headline-making research on reforestation, which led to the UN’s viral Trillion Trees Campaign, Crowther introduces Restor: an expansive,…

Ведьмі цудоўная відыё, прыемна даведацца аб гэтай ініцыятыве. Абавязкова штосьці зраблю для RESTORE
reducing emissions is also a miscommunication. most people think reducing emissions is the silver bullet to fixing ecosystems but fixing the ecosystems requires revitalizing our relationship with nature: land use changes, industrial production changes, consumption pattern changes, spiritual changes
If i am interested in this kind of work, what degrees should i look into?
Very excited by the possibility of maintaining and increasing biodiversity in our world. What a magnificent goal to move me forward.
Till now earth has lost 67% ecology, 98.97% biodiversity, 99.95% animal species gone extinct, 78.79% fungus gone extinct, fungus are medicine for trees, trees are no more immune from micro life infections, ecology is immune system of earth, biodiversity is the nurvous system 😢, now you understand what wrong we have done 😢
Reformation of ecosystems to be abundant in its production capacity and with it compensate the environmental demands
This material is exceptional. I read a book with related content that changed my life. "A Life Unplugged: Reclaiming Reality in a Digital Age" by Theodore Blaze
How could i contact this professor?? Need help from him in this regard for ecosystem restoration?
I'm sharing this with my enviro science students in Australia. Absolutely brilliant!!!!
go vegan
SO IN " NATURE" BEING DIVERSE IS BAD? BUT IN THE HUMAN SPECIES IT'S " A MUST?" WHY IS THIS TRUE??
AS FOR NATURE HOW DOES BILL GATES IDEA OF CUTTING DOWN THOUSANDS OF FOREST TO " ELIMINATE " CARBON?? HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE CLASS TREES TAKE IN CO2 AND RELEASES O2, SO….WHAT'S BILL GATES TALKING ABOUT???
Ugh, how insufferable! Climate change has nothing to do with declining wildlife numbers! That's a common lie they love to tell you. Tree planting-only campaigns are vastly inferior to broad spectrum land restoration. And finally: mass info-gathering and info-sharing isn't what land restoration needs – in fact it's not needed AT ALL. I could go on and on, but I'm tired of crap videos like this.
The planet does not need us, nature does not need us. It is the other way round. The planet will do fine, better even, when us humans just let go of control and managing. Without humans nature will completely heal itself. Please don't act so self important. Nature itself knows best.
Anyone who enjoyed this ted talk should look up mossy earth. They do tons of great projects centered on restoring the earth and promoting biodiversity while posting well produced updates on all their projects on their youtube page. They are also very honest about what has worked and what hasnt worked so well for them to allow it to be used as a learning experience for others. They are a truly amazing project and i highly suggest anyone interested in this topic to look them up whether its just to watch the videos or if you choose to put your money where your mouth is either way this channel will be a great match for you
Super good
Tree tree, no tree means no shade to pee. Oil co. Sells million yr old liquified trees at gas stations where anyone gets to pee for free.
BRAVO!!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING 🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅
Except ten times more forests are being destroyed to make way for wind and solar factories. It’s is industrialisation on an exponential scale. Despicable
eat soya hahahahah nahhhh
Thank you for spreading environment awareness! 🙏
That was awesome 👏 regards from Poland 🇵🇱 We are restoring our land here
Fantastic video!!! Very well put together, and very well stated! Thank you for doing the work you are doing!
I suspect effective forest restoration should include burying a piece of rotten wood and living tree roots in a bit of soil, from a healthy forest, close to the planted trees. To kickstart the fungal aspect of the ecosystem. Probably best if sourced from close to a tree of the same kind in a healthy forest.
Returning the land to the original owners, I hope that includes the americas
Leave the machine learning and models alone and listen to the ancient wisdom of nature and the people still connected to her .
Grasslands and oceans store carbon and require restoration, as well as forests. Earth first, Mars second.
First to do what you all think would work you need to get rid of the noxious plants and animals that do not belong where they are.
New Beginnings
Love this information, very helpful
Even if 0.9 billion hectares is re-forested it would take 20 years to absorb 30% of the excess carbon in the atmosphere (about 500 billion tons), in those 20 years we will have produced another 700 billion tons or so.
Even if we did this (which we’re not) we’d be fighting a losing battle.
Planting lots of trees by human population around the world will save many lives and save our planet earth 🌱🌳🌳🌍🌳🌳🌏🌳🌳🌎🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳planting trees 🌱🌳 . Save many lives🌱🌳🌳🌳 🌎🌍🌏🌳🌳🌱👍🌱🌳🌳🌳
Thank you.
Thank Prof. Thomas Crowther.
Your idea is very impressive and I believe if all countries follow your method we can have good approach for battle the climate change.😀😀
Curious about these opposing forces that provides continuity in Nature. Although there is a great wealth of educational resources about this topic, most of them just deals on the superficial aspects and not it's essence. Thank you for sharing this wonderful and thought provoking content.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
🙄🙄🙄
I know the nature how reacts and difference between soil and sand as well biodivervity of plants trees potential of trees in our lives and I'm pact on huan beings and Animals .. 🙏🙏
Everything he said about the importance of restoring not only trees, but a natural ecosystem that includes trees begs the question- "Why are we destroying these rich old growth forests?" For a hamburger? For the brief taste of other animal products?
"While the wildfires raging in the Amazon rainforest may constitute an “international crisis,” they are hardly an accident.
The vast majority of the fires have been set by loggers and ranchers to clear land for cattle. The practice is on the rise, encouraged by Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil’s populist pro-business president, who is backed by the country’s so-called “beef caucus.”
While this may be business as usual for Brazil’s beef farmers, the rest of the world is looking on in horror.
So, for those wondering how they could help save the rainforest, known as “the planet’s lungs” for producing about 20% of the world’s oxygen, the answer may be simple. Eat less meat."- CNN
Another reason they burn the Amazon is to grow soy. "More than three-quarters (77%) of global soy is fed to livestock for meat and dairy production. Most of the rest is used for biofuels, industry or vegetable oils. Just 7% of soy is used directly for human food products such as tofu, soy milk, edamame beans, and tempeh." -Our World in Data
He lost me at Google is involved. It is repulsive how everything comes from just a few big tech giants. Even youtube sold out. Sucks

Oh look another world economic forum member promoting the 2030 agenda where they say you will own nothing and be happy wake up people!
All that network expert to bring all kinds of solutions is no more than a way to corporate everything and then get even our air for sale.
I don't buy it.
Stop the solutions that later absorb our own existence. Leave it decentralized.
I am a landscape architect who works heavily on greenway projects and has always been concerned about ecological diversity
This was beautiful
