  1. I am writing from Terfa Jarso Seminary in the city of Mettu in the west of Ethiopia. FYI religion is very important here, but the religious make up is Ethiopian Orthodox 43.8%, Muslim 31.3%, Protestant 22.8%, Catholic 0.7%, traditional 0.6%, other 0.8% (2016 est.). Those figures are 7 years old. The Ethiopian Evangelical Church Home of Jesus — affiliated with the Lutheran World Federation and with a strong Presbyterian element — is the fastest growing church in the world so the percentage of Protestant is probably larger now. I am not writing to criticize, just to inform. i didn't know anything about Ethiopia before I was asked to come here as a guest lecturer!! Ethiopian King Ezana converted to Christianity in the fourth century and made it the state religion of the kingdom at almost at exactly the same time that Emperor Constantine made Christianity the state religion of the Holy Roman Empire. It is a remarkable country with all its diversity. The EECMY is remarkable, too, with a motto "the whole Gospel for the whole person for the whole world." Lots of mission work done by Ethiopians sometimes in partnership with the government, working (HIV/AIDS, teaching ecological farming to local farmers, elevating the status of women, to name just a few. They even ordain women as pastors!

And I LOVE the food. My regular home is in Minneapolis, which has the largest E African immigrant community in the country. (Ilhan Omar, from Somalia, is our Congresswoman. I am glad that I can easily buy injera and even go to Ethiopian restaurants. Thanks for your video. I will now try to cook these new dishes when I get home!
