The “Dupont Law” that is killing rugby
“It’s a law that is not showing the game in it’s best light and something needs to be changed.”

Change the substitute rule too. The 7-1 and 6-2 bench splits are hurting rugby just as much, I would suggest a mandatory 5-3 or even (less likely) 4-4 split
Irish people complaining about France making the game boring
Royce Dupont?
Wait, what? When did THAT become the law? That is BS!
A sport that doesn't enforce its own laws is already ruined.
Killing the sport is why it takes 10 mins to produce a scrum that doesn’t end in a penalty
One good spiral kick with MASSIVE hang time would negate all the other kicks in that or any other sequences you played.
I'm conflicted at the reality of agreeing with Matt Williams… well, sh*t… lol.. #Bokke 🇿🇦
DuPont and French team: let’s play kick tennis.
Lowe and his big cannon left boot: na, that’s boring.
Wilkinson was the biggest proponent of this style of play during his career. Though it makes sense that it wasn't an issue when Englishman was doing it, but now that a Frenchman copies Wilkinsons play style it's suddenly the talk of the moment.
What are they on about?
"Kick tennis" has always been a part of the game and this law change isn't going to change that. Especially when there are back three players who have a long kicking range because it works and gains territory.
You think France and Ramos are going to stop kicking it long? Of course not because in that little tennis battle then end up gaining 30-40m by the end of it
The "dupont' law sections have been in the law book since the 1870s! Always been there. Nothing has changed. Obv needs to (and looks like it will be)!
this isn't killing rugby. the desperate slowness of play kills rugby. scrums take forever. penalty kicks take forever. more points are made from penalties than tries
I stopped watching last year.
It's not a law. It's not.
Law 10 4c and 10 8 explains it.
I feel like im in the twilight zone
The Laws have al.ways been flawed… most of the time those complaining about it lost their match.
Deal with it; train harder, work harder, play better. If you are outclassed stop moaning about the Laws!
Bullshit,,,,, make kicking duels great again
This is a storm in a tea cup. For how many minutes was aerial ping pong played Scotland v France? One minute? Two? By all means fix the rule but let's not get our knickers in a twist over this.
Shur, Kearney used to do it for a period as well. Himself, Lee Byrne, Bauxis etc.
Some of the laws aren’t too bad. It’s the coaches doing work around to bend them to their limits. Gone are the days of good running and skilled rugby. Take a look at South Africa who now have a referee as part of their coaching team. That says it all.
It's the northern hemisphere teams. They can't just play tough rugby. They have to play rugby like it's an exam just so they can beat the southerners. That's why they can't win a world cup. The only time they did was eng 03. And they really did earn that win.
No more red cards
Who are these guys again? How many world cups have they won again?
Kicking duels are a fascinating part of the game, but i agree that the 5m run law is silly. Allow them to stand still, but an onside runner should have to play them onside before they can advance. The 5m rule destroys counter attack
Rugby is killing itself because there are too many laws making it so complicated that no one – players, spectators or referees – understand what the hell they can and cannot do on purpose or by accident. And mostly in the name of elf and safety. The moment any sport gets too complex to play, watch and enjoy is the beginning of the end.
Rugby laws have become the worst example of unintended consequences. Run by idiots.
What was the law change in the 60s that got rid of it?
A couple tweaks could fix this: eliminate the mark for uncontested kicks and require the catching player to use the ball immediately, not dither with it.
The kicker of the ball should also be required to immediately run forward to bring players onside.
Seems like a simple fix.
Union has been destroyed by the governing body. They are inept and incompetent administrators and officials have ruined the game removing any continuity. It's boring as a spectacle. Most people give up following a sport when the outcome is a lottery. That's how bad it has become.
Will rugby survive?!?!
Rob Kearney played at the highest level, with incredible skill!
Why the heck did you guys end up calling this the Dupont law?
I thought poor punditry was as killing the sport
The full spectrum. From a relatively smart eloquent Kearney to the village idiot Matt Williams.
Stop trying to change the game at every turn. Rugby is beautiful the way it is. If you want to see what "boring" and endless stopages look like watch an NFL game.
The moment Matt opened his mouth, I stopped the video
