Where does FDR rank in your league table of US Presidents?
Love the set, looks like something from a movie
Roosevelts eyes looked like he had been drunk for weeks.
My parents especially my dad thought the sun rose and set in Roosevelts back side. E Lenore was like a queen
March of dimes had his picture on the dime icon.
Dear world war 2. You forgot to mention FDRs Blood pressure Numbers in the video. Franklin D. Roosevelt's Blood pressure was 186/108 when it was first measured in 1941. And then Rose to 260/150. At the time, high blood pressure at 130/80, and below 120/80 is considered normal. In April 1945, while seated for a portrait, Roosevelt fell unconscious and Bruenn estimated his blood pressure to be 350/195 mmHg. The day he died his Blood pressure was measured at 300/190 mm Hg.
Roosevelt's health steadily declined, but he refused to decrease his workload. He was a heavy smoker and devotee of fried foods. World war 2. That's what you did say about FDR's Blood pressure. That killed him.
Why do you have a volume of The Spirit by Will Eisner on your desk? Don't get me wrong, great reading, but it just seems an odd choice.
Like Lincoln, he lead us through a terrible trial.
And then departed.
England had to dign pver lots of bases and territory to the USA
The Soviet Union would hace won WW2 in Europe by itself. Then tyey would have taken on Japan and won too. They had more people
A huge number of Republicans wanted fascism. YouTube has videos of the rallies. FDR saved capitalism from fascism and from itself with regulations. Prescott Bush, Charles Lindbergh, and yes Joe Kennedy wanted fascism. And if fascism comes to America, it will be on the right, carryibg a ButBull and waiving a flag, hiding begind the lie we were founded as a ChriSTAIN country. Just look at that party od coup attendees today.
FDR played the American people brilliantly with serving the king hotdogs. It helped gain support for England
When FDR died, his people went out and pushed his wants in Europe, like national healthcare.
Eleanor made sure a black lady could sing on the mall.
He did fail to bring Truman up to speed on a lot. That is the only fault he had.
He had those wheelchairs made to look like regular chairs and to get around the office.
It was not GBS. He tested positive for polio.
Eleanor won him his 3rd term. Her speech caused all doubts to fall away breaking tradition. This the 4th term was easier
I never knew why Truman was chosen as VP for the 4th term. Your explanation makes a lot of sense as it seems that Truman was much more hostile to the Soviets than FDR was.
FDR Death was the death of the 4 freedoms as well. It’s sad. What could’ve America been today
The tyrant kicks the bucket
Whether or not you agree with his policies, FDR led the US through one of the greatest conflicts our nation has seen in our history. A historic leader for a historic time.
To anyone interested in learning more about FDR, I would recommend a trip to the Roosevelt Home and Museum in Hyde Park. It ranks as one of the best Presidential homes I've ever toured, and you can enjoy lunch afterwards at the CIA. No, not the Central Intelligence Agency, but the Culinary Institute of America, set above the scenic Hudson River Valley. As for Eleanor Roosevelt, she holds a special place for me as she was on the first Board of Trustees for my alma mater, Brandeis University, where my daughter is currently an undergraduate student.
Interesting story about Truman. He was having drinks with his friend Sam Rayburn when he was called to go to the White House. When Truman arrived, Eleanor told him that FDR had died. Truman, ever the gentleman, said "Is there anything I can do for you, Mrs Roosevelt." She looked at him and replied "Is there anything we can do for you? You are the one in trouble now."
Roosevelt's (4th) Inaguraul speech is completely under appreciated and rings more true today than ever before post-WW2….
Interesting using the Free French Flag. At that point did Vichy France still exist?
these Documentars are so interesting, thank you for making them (:
The last good POTUS
13:52 Kantaro Suzuki, a samurai born in the Edo period, has a different mindset than the typical Japanese militarist.
I hadn't known of the diagnosis of something other than polio for Roosevelt's paralysis. I do know the March of Dimes was started in the 30s to fund research to cure polio. Saw one of those movie ads here on YouTube where Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney are urging people to send their dimes to the White House. The Roosevelt dime was first issued in 1945 after Roosevelt's death in tribute to those efforts.
Prior to the 1944 election Bob Hope joked, "I'm voting for Roosevelt. I've always voted for Roosevelt. My father always voted for Roosevelt. "
FDR wasn't a bad person and not a terrible President… but he was willing to do terrible and vile things, to do what he thought was right. Worse, his personal Ego was monstrous. While at the time not a Law, though later it would be, other Presidents limited themselves to two terms, just like George Washington, a man who could have been crowned as a King. Yet FDR saw himself as to important and was never willing to hand over the reigns of power and that should have been a warning to everyone else. In the end he was even willing to lie to the people about his health, rather than retire and that lie would harm the Nation during a critical point in history. Such was his hubris.
His death came too late.
