The sovereignty of the Republic of Somaliland is deeply ingrained in its people and government, reflecting a strong sense of national identity and self-determination. Since declaring independence from Somalia in 1991, Somaliland has strived to assert its autonomy and establish itself as a separate state on the international stage.
The recent public outcry over the expansion of Berbera Port under the DP World concession agreement underscores the complexities surrounding Somaliland's pursuit of economic development and strategic partnerships. While the port expansion promises economic benefits and opportunities for the region, concerns have been raised about potential environmental impacts, displacement of local communities, and the terms of the concession agreement itself. This echoes earlier opposition and debates within Somaliland about the balance between economic growth and safeguarding local interests and resources.
Ethiopia's recognition of the statehood of the Republic of Somaliland carries historical significance, signaling a shift in regional dynamics and diplomatic relations. Ethiopia, a landlocked country heavily reliant on access to ports for its trade and economic activities, has identified Somaliland as a valuable partner in enhancing its connectivity and trade routes. The acknowledgment of Somaliland's statehood by Ethiopia reflects a pragmatic approach driven by shared interests in regional stability, economic cooperation, and security collaboration.
Moreover, Ethiopia's recognition also highlights the evolving nature of diplomatic engagements in the Horn of Africa region, where traditional alliances and geopolitical dynamics are being reshaped by emerging actors and changing priorities. As Somaliland continues to assert its sovereignty and pursue diplomatic recognition, the endorsement from Ethiopia provides a significant boost to its international standing and legitimacy.
Overall, the relationship between Somaliland and Ethiopia is characterized by mutual interests and pragmatic cooperation, underpinned by shared objectives of economic development, regional stability, and strategic partnerships. As both nations navigate the complexities of regional politics and global dynamics, the recognition of Somaliland's statehood by Ethiopia represents a pivotal moment in shaping the future trajectory of the Horn of Africa region.
The weak Somalia government could not stop the (MOU).
Viva Somaliland Ethiopia🙂❤✌
It's none sense and disastarous if every Somali Clan try to have separate Flag for its regions as it seems now
😂😂😂😢😢😢😮😅1
Guul Guul Guul Somali land ❤
SomaliLand gained independence on june 26 th 1960 before 42 African countries including Somalia and became 12 th independence country after that somalia united with recognized SomaliLand without official union agreement! Now SomaliLand is not new State but one theoldest African countries.
In 1991, Somaliland declared its independence from the unconditional unification with Italian Somalia in 1960. For the past three decades, it has governed its country legally, both politically and economically, without any interference from the failed state of Somalia or any other international countries.
Despite being recognized by 35 international states, including the five permanent members of the United Nations, in 1960, Somaliland has yet to receive recognition from the international community. However, it is imperative that Somaliland is recognized, and that the Federal Government of Ethiopia should take the lead in doing so as Ethiopia already has strong economic, security, and political relations with Somaliland.
Recognizing Somaliland's status as an independent state by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia would bolster the existing ties and yield substantial economic benefits for the Horn of Africa region and beyond
Somaliland has a strategic location, with access to the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, making it a potential hub for trade and investment.
Moreover, recognizing Somaliland would be a mutually beneficial decision for both Ethiopia and Somaliland. It would provide Somaliland with the international recognition it deserves, and Ethiopia would benefit from having a stable and reliable partner in the region.
Somaliland has been operating as an independent state for over 30 years, with a functioning government, economy, and military. It can no longer remain a captive to the failed state of Somalia. It is time for the international community to recognize Somaliland's achievements and potential, and for Ethiopia to take the lead in doing so.
Ethiopian no good

The annexation of Somaliland by Somalia 🇸🇴 is maybe over in 2024.
We all know Somaliland was not and it is not a region of Somalia 🇸🇴. Did Somaliland lost it is recognition from Great Britain on 26 Jun 1960? No change of the Colonial borders
Somaliland has been illegally ocuppied by Somalia from 1960- 1991. Now somalia is a failed state, but still claimes juristiction over Somaliland which makes Somaliland people to site in limbo for 34 years. Is that fair?
Somaliland is within the colonial borders, so that augment is null and void.
Despite President Hassan's attempts to gain attention from the AU through immature means, he ultimately failed. In the end, Somaliland will garner support for recognition of its independence from AU members due to his diplomatic incompetence.😂😂
Good 👍 And it is right to Recognize The Republic Of Somaliland by the African Unions and it is good Idea 💡✅🙏✅🌍🌍🌍🙏✅
AU is a useless Organisation
