  1. There are plenty of genuine charities, but the Charities Commission in UK and it's equivalents elsewhere seem to do zero monitoring so the probability of numerous bogus ones is highly likely. CEOs and cronies award themselves huge salaries (Save the Children was once cited for this, amongst others) and on many of their websites the information about projects can be vague, sparse and unconvincing. Something needs to be done worldwide as fat cats are using others' generosity to live rich jet-setting lifestyles with a disproportionately small amount actually spent where it should be spent. Just awful.

  6. This really is a very sad story. When people like me try to even start a go-fund me to raise money for poor Kenyan mums and children and can't get a penny and have to use personal savings and loans to go it alone, there are people greedy and just don't care. It's frustrating and begs the question – where is your heart really?

  11. Oddly, I had a run in with Australian "volunteers" that were "helping" children in Kenya. They raised $20k or so to build a school but would only give $100 every few months. After a year the Kenyan leader began to complain but the Australians volunteers gave excuses. 2 years in he finally roped me in to help. I exposed them on their donation page & social media, & advocated for them against the attorney the sent to scare him. They FINALLY received their funds & a school was built. SMDH so shameful!

  12. Looking at all the comments here it's very sad that incidents like this tarnish the reputation of the whole industry. There are a lot of NGOs doing great work and having positive impact but people love to jump to conclusions and paint the whole industry with the same brush.
