Love it or hate it, Amazon has given busy shoppers the power (and convenience) of instant retail therapy with its same- and next-day delivery options for everything from groceries and last-minute gifts to luxury beauty products.

Since first launching as an online bookstore in 1995, the e-commerce giant has expanded into entertainment and tech with Amazon MGM Studios, its own Prime Video and music streaming platforms and big investments in generative AI and creator firm Spotter, to name just a few moves. The company sells its own line of products — everything from Kindle e-readers and rechargeable batteries to home essentials and affordable clothing for the entire family — and offers designer fashion, pre-loved Rolexes and more.

But not all consumers are comfortable with the power over their pocketbooks — and privacy — wielded by Amazon and billionaire founder Jeff Bezos. Some Amazon customers disagree with Bezos’ cozying up with President Donald Trump, his company’s opposition to warehouse workers’ unions or his revamp of The Washington Post‘s opinion section (he bought the newspaper in 2013).

The massive company is among those named in another economic boycott this weekend led by grassroots organization People’s Union USA, which previously led a one-day spending boycott on Feb. 28 that was shared on social media by stars including John Leguizamo, Taraji P. Henson, Bette Midler, Cyndi Lauper and Raffi, to name just a few. The movement encourages consumers to avoid buying from Amazon, Walmart, Target and other major retailers that have rolled back their Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs, a result of the federal government’s end to those initiatives it deemed “radical and wasteful.”

Whether you’re pledging to support more small and local businesses, or prefer to spend your money with corporations that better align with your values, we’ve rounded up some of the best online alternatives to the e-tail behemoth. Many of our picks are Certified B Corporations, meaning their business practices help to create a more “inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy [that] benefits all people, communities and the planet.” Our favorites also offer subscription options for essentials such as kitchen cleaners, laundry detergent and compostable bags, making it easy to restock your eco-conscious home reguarly.

Ahead, check out the best Amazon alternatives for groceries, pre-loved luxury fashion and electronics, home cleaning essentials, zero-waste products and much more.

Shop over 1,500 plastic-free products across every household category, including kitchen and bathroom cleaners, laundry care, personal wellness, school supplies, home decor and textiles and more.

Grove stocks many brands you’ll find at Target, Walmart and Amazon, such as GreenPan, Alba Botanica, Gir, Arber, If You Care, Badger Balm, Beekeeper’s Naturals, Better Battery Co., Billie, BioBag, FaceTory, Hum Nutrition, Caboo, Dr. Squatch, Dr. Bronner’s, Earth Rated, EcoTools, Hello and many others.

Best for produce

Misfits Market

Misfits Market allows you to save up to 30 percent off your weekly grocery bill when you shop “ugly produce” — think organic fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood, dairy and pantry items that don’t look picture perfect but are otherwise perfectly edible. Items might be slightly misshapen, too big or small, a tad bit bruised, past the “sell by” date or simply overstock. Whatever the case, members of Misfits Market help reduce food waste and keep farmers in business.

The company offers a rotating selection of more than 600 sustainably-sourced produce and groceries each week, including packaged foods from brands like Minor Figures, Meadow Reserve, True Story, Essential Baking Co. and others. You’ll get a specific shopping window and Misfits Market will create a personalized cart filled with $35 to $42 worth of groceries (you can add or remove anything). Deliveries arrive weekly on specific days to help reduce carbon emissions, and you can skip, pause or cancel your membership any time. The company will even take back packaging to keep them out of landfills. Its investors include Sound Ventures, the venture capital firm co-founded by Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary.)

Fashionphile

Amazon Luxury Stores is a little-known source for pre-loved designer goods — which you can also find at Fashionphile, one of our favorite online resale platforms for luxury bags, jewelry, watches and accessories. The San Diego-based company offers certified authentic Hermès, Chanel, Gucci, Saint Laurent, Loewe, Prada, Dior, Cartier, Rolex, Patek Philippe, Goyard, Chrome Hearts and many other coveted luxury names at better-than-new prices.

Through its partnership with Neiman Marcus, Fashionphile also offers online order pickups and dropoffs for pre-quoted items for selling. And if you’re near one of the company’s permanent or pop-up locations in Los Angeles, New York, San Diego, Scottsdale, San Francisco, Philadelphia and beyond, you can sell, drop off or buy online for in-person pickup.

Best Laundry and Dish Soap Subscription

Dropps

Hands-down our favorite dish and laundy pods, Dropps’ flexible subscriptions have helped us cross off decision fatigue when it comes to eco-conscious cleaning. (The brand is also available at Target stores.) We like that we can choose the quantity and frequency of shipments: a 64-count box ($24.96) of the UltraWash Plus biobased power dishwasher detergent lasts our family of four about two months, and our glasses and plates have never been cleaner.

Formulas are free pthalates, phosphates, chlorine, parabens, SLS and dyes, and products are shipped in plastic-free packaging. The Leaping Bunny-certified B Corp company is offering 25 percent off all month with code BYEBYEDIRTY.

From unlocked iPhones and Samsung Galaxy smartphones, to MacBooks and PlayStation 5 gaming consoles, eco-conscious techies will find plenty of professionally refurbished options. All products are eligible for returns within 30 days under Back Market’s free warranty, and you can also trade in your old tech and save up to $700 your purchase.

Bookshop.org Logo

Best for Books

Bookshop

Since launching in 2020, Bookshop has brought the same convenience to online book shopping as Amazon — even better, it’s raised over $36 million for independent bookstores. You can select a local business to support with your purchase of paper or hard cover books, ebooks, games and puzzles, and bookworms will find every genre from leading and independent publishers and best-selling and rising authors.

Blueland Starter Kit

Best for Refillable Cleaning Products

Blueland

Blueland makes it easy to switch to eco-friendlier, refillable home cleaning products — and it’s one less thing to add to your next Target run. The company is known for its just-add-water approach to its cleaning product tablets: you essentially make your own foaming hand soap and all-purpose, bathroom and glass/mirror cleaners. They also offer toilet cleaning, dishwasher and laundry tablets, and starter kits come with refillable and reusable spray bottles, soap dispensers and metal storage canisters.

Their Subscribe & Save option lets you set your preferred products and delivery dates

Blueland is treating shoppers to 20 percent site wide for Earth Day.

Public Goods bills its eco-conscious products as “radically simple” at prices 20 percent lower than traditional retail for members of its Better Together program ($49 per year). It offers bath and body products, cleaning essentials, kitchen and dining items, home decor and packaged foods and beverages. Find earth-friendly items such as compostable or biodegradable dental picks and trash bags, reusable bamboo straws and food storage wraps, glass storage containers, plant-based dish and laundry soaps and more. In the food aisle, shop for cereals, pasta, canned goods, coffee and tea, pantry staples and flash-frozen wild-caught fish. Public Goods even sells minimalist dinnerware and bedding.

Pact Logo

Best for GrocerIES

Instacart

Target’s Drive Up and Circle 360 service make it tempting to shop online and enjoy convenient in-store pickup or delivery directly to your door. But Instacart offers even more options beyond your local Bulls Eye store, which also rivals Amazon Fresh and Amazon-owned Whole Foods Market’s inventory and same-day delivery offerings. The on-demand delivery platform lets you get your order from your local grocery store in as quickly as an hour. And it’s not just for food: Instacart can deliver alcohol, home goods, beauty products, flowers and more from Sephora, Aldi, Costco, Sprouts Farmers Market, Smart & Final, CVS, Walmart, Ulta, Petsmart and over 80,000 more stores across the U.S. and Canada.

It’s free to sign up for Instacart — you’ll just pay an additional delivery fee on orders. However, an Instacart+ membership ($99 per year) gets you zero delivery fees on groceries and restaurants, free streaming on Peacock and a one-year subscription to New York Times Cooking for as long as you’re a member. Instacart+ comes with a free 14-day trial and you’ll enjoy no delivery fees on orders over $10 from select stores.
