For centuries, the Anga tribe of Papua New Guinea have practiced a unique mummification technique – smoking the dead.

The smoking process can take up to three months and once complete, the mummies are placed on top of a cliff side to watch over the village. The Anga people consider this the highest form of respect for the dead.
